Some Pitt stats and advanced stats for anyone interested

https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/pittsburgh/2018.html

Thought these might be interesting to look at now that the OC schedule has been completed.

Gary, thanks for that info.
I immediately looked at Davis' percentages. He's
shooting over 50% for 2's, and over 50% for threes. The word on this guy
was he's a last minute, fill in type of recruit. So far he's anything but. The last
few games we're seeing it's not a fluke, since he's continuing on an upward
trend as the games go by.
Personally I feel he's our biggest surprise among the recruits. It looks as though
he's even becoming a starter at guard. He plays equally well with either Carr
or Milligan. What I like about him is he plays within himself and doesn't try to do
things he's incapable of.
The percentages are nice, but he clearly passes the eye test in many other ways.
So, here's the question...we got lucky with this guy?...OR, Stallings knew what he
was doing and saw the talent. I've yet to hear anyone give Stallings credit for
finding this underecruited player and getting him to Pitt. Also, consider this.....
if Davis wasn't that good, how in hell is he doing what he's doing?......
hmmmm...coaching maybe?

He has a weird shot that seems to take him a long time to get off, so it's going to be interesting to see how that plays going forward.

Davis is a positive surprise and certainly has looked good at times, I've seen a lot of credit on this board for him. But shooting percentages aside he is also contributing very little. His per 40 min stats are 9.4pts, 4.6reb, 1.9 assists. That is basically Chris Jones.

I think he is much better than expected and looks to be a possible piece in the future, but he will have to continue to improve quite a bit to be a contributor on a good team.

I'd also add that part of why he is doing what he is doing is that he is getting a lot of minutes. This is not a good team, giving a lot of minutes to guys that otherwise would not be getting minutes on major conference teams at this point in their careers.

I love college basketball reference, definitely some really good stuff.

The last 2 years Pitt saw about a 5 pt/gm decrease from OOC to league play, along with about a 2% pt drop in shooting percentage. Hopefully that does not hold up this year, if it does our end of year stats will look pretty poor.

Davis is shooting over 50% on 3s, and Carr shooting 49%. Both figures are higher than I realized. Not sustainable rates, and not enormous sample sizes, especially for Davis, but impressive 3ptFG% so far.

Stewart is shooting just 32% on 3s. And only Chukwuka (among players to have logged 100 minutes) has a lower eFG% than Stewart.

JWF leads the team with 167 points scored, but of the nine guys with 100 minutes played he ranks 8th in ORtg and 7th in DRtg. Leads the team in field goal attempts by a fairly wide margin.

Luther has the best ORtg and the best DRtg.
