They are BACK, baby!

As some of us thought after the comments made by Wes Durham on a radio show a few months back, it appears that Raycom will continue to show select games through Regional Sports Networks......that coveted 12:30 PM AT&T Sports Net slot that Pitt fans have come to know and love. I guess ESPN and the ACC felt they needed a way to keep as many nooners as they could now that some of those games have shifted to primetime on ACCN.

It appears that if there are games that ESPN does not want after filling up slots on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, and ACCN, that game will fall to Raycom. There wont be a such game in Week 1 but set your DVRs for Weeks 2 and 3 when NC State plays Western Carolina and Georgia Tech plays The Citadel.

This guy isn't happy.

That actually sucks correct as there is less incentive for raycom to have a contract with At&t Pittsburgh?

There would be less incentive for ATTSN to buy the Raycom contract considering the games will be much worse and there will be few, if any, Pitt games. However, that contract also has to be dirt cheap considering the downgrade in quantity and quality. But, I guess it's possible that ATTSN doesnt buy it and there's a Pitt game that goes untelevised locally AND these games arent allowed on watch ESPN until after the game ends so in theory, there may be a Pitt game you cant watch live in Western PA but I would doubt that. For one, I think ATTSN will buy the contract. Keep in mind, they need programming and lost WVU/Big 12 to ESPN+ and 2) I bet there's only 3-4 of these games all season and maybe a dozen or 2 basketball games

Is it possible Pitt just pays at&t to put it on?

I doubt it but I wouldn't worry about it. The Pitt/Delaware game is the only football game I can see getting Raycom and even then, I think that gets ACCN due to the lack of programming that day. And, maybe 1-2 cupcake basketball games. No big deal

I haven't missed viewing a football or basketball game in like eons. I don't want to miss even 1 of the cupcake games.

This blog post sums it up well

I’m hoping Pitt is rarely on AT&T sports- it would be irritating if the ACCN simply meant fewer ESPN network games with little change to the use of RSNs. I can’t stand the blackouts due to the RSNS .

Really good synopsis. I am stunned that it appears that entire Raycom/RSN package remains in tact. 17 football games + basketball, which is usually 4-5 games per week. It wouldn't appear there would be enough programming for ACCN. He said there are 91 conference-controlled football games. So, if there are 17 on RSNs and 45 on ACCN/ACCNE, that leaves only 29 for ABC, ESPN, ESPNU, and ABC or roughly 2 per week. So, if you are scoring at home, this would mean that essentially the only S as Saturday ACC games on big boy ESPN will be Clemson and FSU.

Yeah- I was really hoping the ACCN ends the era of RSN blackouts.

One interesting note is I wonder if this applies to all RSNs or just the Disney RSNs sold to Sinclair? It’s interesting to me that the Ohio - Pitt game is on the ACCN not RSN. I don’t believe AT&T is part of the Disney - Sinclair deal.

My dreams of completely cutting the chord are dashed by this news!

You can still cut the cord my man. Those games on RSN's can be streamed too . Its just a pain to have to do that.

The RSN game streams are only available live on watch ESPN if your local RSN didn't buy it. If ATTSN buys the package again, which they probably will, you will have to shut off your phone and not watch TV until about 4 hours after the start time and then stream it.

To the other poster, no, ATTSN is not part of the Disney/Sinclair deal.

There are websites that stream the game live.

If you’re in a local market where the RSN has the rights to the game - it will be blacked out.

As an example, if AT&T has the rights - you can’t stream it in Pittsburgh.

I’ve also come across this while traveling- because rights are held by an RSN you can’t stream it.

I’m still hopeful the ACCN lessens this as I can’t imagine they want to dilute their own value through the ACCN by having a lot of games on RSNs. But who knows.

According to the link provided above, it appears that it's back in full, which is surprising and certainly would devalue ACCN and what they can charge cable companies. I guess ESPN felt it wasnt worth buying those rights back.

OK, so yes, the Raycom/RSN contract remains unchanged. Noon games for EVERYONE (well, kinda just Pitt and a few others).

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.fo...-football-television-schedule-053019?amp=true

With the season being 14 weeks long and there being no Raycom games the first week, that would mean the 17 games will occur over the last 13 weeks meaning there will be 4 Saturdays with 2 Raycom games which they typically do at noon and 3:30. However, looking at the schedule, I don't know how ACCN is going to be able to do 3 games every Saturday considering this. There will probably be several Saturdays with 0 ACC games on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPNU. For example, there are only 4 ACC games on October 5 and 12. My guess is that Pitt vs Delaware is noon on ATTSN (Pirates are home). Hoping for a later time for Pitt vs UCF
