Surreal scene in Morgantown

Well, we can't change who we are. Hopefully for your sake if you ever witness Pitt win an especially important game, someone will be kind enough to roll your butt onto the court so you can have some fun.

Ummm...we have beaten #1 and many top 5 teams at home. We just don't do that. That being said, I don't have any problems with it. What I have problems with is if a top team beats a name team then storm the court.

By the way, WVU is really good.

That was some storming of the court. They looked like old people at Arthur Murray dance studio

Then they sang that goofy hillbilly country roads song.

What's the big deal about students having some fun? They're in college. The players seem to enjoy being surrounded by their classmates. It's a fun, memorable moment.

You're just being an old grumble-pants.

The writer who suffered a broken leg in one of these idiotic court stormings earlier this year might not agree

Got it. Personally, I'm not concerned about students storming a court when they are paying tuition to be there.

OMG - out of the hundreds of court storming we have produced a broken leg. Let's shut down all the fun so no more bones get broken.

Whenever my kid plays outside I make him wear a football helmet and hockey pads - no scraps or bruises for my little boy. His car seat is top rated but I always add a few layers of duct tape just to be sure.

Have you considered putting him up for adoption? It doesn't sound to me that you are suitable to be parenting kids. Plus you're from West Virginia and the courts don't look favorably on that fact.

I'm not from WV, and if you can't be funnier than that, there's no need for you to play along. I simply can't respect a weak trash talker. Step it up, or move on.

I like darth vadeer's sense of humor.

WVU is legit. They have depth, they play D and they hustle. You must handle their pressure to beat them. If you can, WVU can have problems scoring. I'd say they probably make sweet 16 again.

First WVU isn't as good as last years team was. They play hard for 40 minutes that's their plus but they can't shoot it.I'm shocked Self didn't go to a zone tonight and make the Mounties shoot over it.That's why they had so many free throws they took it to the hoop.As far as the crowd strangest thing I've ever seen not their looks I'm talking about!About 5,000 there at tip off. Then they just keep coming about 8-9000 there by halftime and 11-12,000 there at the end.The two people by me got there with 8 minutes to go in the game.Roads were terrible I swear they got there on 4 wheelers and mini big foot trucks with 30 inch tires!WVU will lose at least 6 Big 12 games, take it to the bank.

You think if Pitt had beaten Kansas at the Pete tonight our fans would have stormed?? I just can't see it.

We've beaten #1 teams at the Pete before. Ho Hum. Been there, done that. When you feel you can run with the big dogs it isn't unusual to beat them.

Hey... seeing Kansas and Oklahoma ranked #1/#2 got me really wondering... and WVU is ranked #11 so I was thinking.... wait until they have to go to... Morganhole.

LOL... tonight was the night.

Nobody should be surprised at all.

We are much better than we were last year.

Daryle what did you do. Pa you told me to burn the coach after WVU won.
I told you and your other brother Daryle to take the couch out of the house and burn it.
I guess we don't have to get new tires for the house now.

This may be Huggins's best coaching job. The team is not overly talented but they are playing like a 1 or 2 seed. Crazy.

Celebrating by playing a song that wasn't meant for West Virginia, it was for the state of Virginia. I would love for the truth to be told in newspapers etc. LMAO

I think the Hoopies deserve their due. KU played like they were standing still all game long.
DT PITT---

Thanks for the kind words. I've always enjoyed reading your "Dribbles" after all Pitt games...I've been a frequent visitor to this board because of the great basketball talk, but never posted.

Anyhow, as to one of the posts in this thread claiming that WVU is not as good as last season - you're way, way off base there. WVU may have lost Juwan Staten, but last season's team was chalk-full of first year players playing significant roles. Bob Huggins did a masterful job getting that team to the Sweet Sixteen. This year, all of those first-year players from last year now have a full season under their belts...and play like it. There's a "been there, done that" attitude that this team has. Don't forget that WVU beat Kansas last year at home and had KU down 18 at Phog Allen in the 2nd half before losing in OT. Finally, what Huggins has done with Jaysean Paige is nothing short of miraculous. He scored 26 last night off the bench, and was clearly the best player on the court. WVU is worlds better this year, and is very well suited to another deep March run.

And, I have this weird feeling that we are on a collision course with Pitt in the NCAA Tournament. The Tournament Committee has a funny way of setting up 2nd round matchups with teams who would draw crowds and attention. WVU/Pitt could potentially be a 2nd round 4/5 or 3/6 matchup.

It's a shame, dare I say a Travesty, a crime (ok that's a bit dramatic) that we don't play them annually. Two very respected programs separated by a bus ride, cant play one game in December? Really? YOu can't convince me scheduling this game is hard.. I absolutely will not accept this. You give me a cell phone, 1 hour, and a bottle of Jameson with a plastic cup, I make this game happen..

BTW, was there a storm in Morgantown last night that missed Pittsburgh? Yeah, the roads were icy, I get it but you leave early. Unless some freak storm hit Morgantown but avoided Pittsburgh and the south hills, not seeing the excuse of why there were so many empty seats. Been to Morgantown, went to school there, the coliseum is pretty accessible. Did the storm prevent the students from walking there? The towers are 1/4 mile away, downtown is less than a mile, I've made the walk before, it's really not that bad..

Congrats on your 1st post. Maybe cc can score more than 39 pts this year in the tourney. As always the jethros show up when they win something but never heard from them all football season. Lots of basketball to be played......now baaaack to sheep board

Ok, we will let you stand on the court in morganhole and have objects etc thrown at you. Cc is barbaric and I laugh at posters that think we are wimps, etc for not scheduling them. I do believe the last time PITT played them fatso Huggy had to take the mic twice and settle them down. Now that is pathetic........

2 things, 1st, I don't see anything wrong with storming the court if it's a big win! I like living in the past and like situations of pure drunken fun that disrespects the law and that might lead to injury! LOL! 2nd, if the weather is bad enough, icy roads or lots of snow, no way in hell I'm going out on the roads, I DON'T CARE that much.

I don't think we are wimps for not scheduling them. I think, like football, that powers that be prioritize certain things in regards to scheduling over pure entertainment. There must be a reason, I can't for the life of me figure it out but I am sure there is some reason that makes sense in scheduling powerhouse programs like Eastern shore, Central Ark, st. josephs Ind, western Carolina over programs like WVU.

My good friend works at a law firm that is exactly 3 miles from the Coliseum. He left his office at 4pm to get over to the Coliseum, and he arrived there at 6:45pm, and it took another 20 minutes just to park because of the traffic snarl. So, he arrived into the game with about 14 minutes to go in the first half.

Another less fortunate friend of mine left Bridgeport, 30 miles south of Morgantown, at 5pm, and didn't arrive until close to halftime.

A freak storm hit and dumped around 3/4 inches of ice - not necessarily snow, but ice- on the roads in less than 90 minutes. The Morgantown area schools all let out around the time the storm hit, and several buses either got stuck or couldn't traverse the roads. Then, the regular business traffic and game traffic all hit at that time, and chaos ensued. That is why Kansas actually needed police escort to the game - they were stuck in the same mess.

All of that aside, WVU still managed a crowd of over 12,000 despite the storm. Folks just arrived late, that is all.

Did you watch the end?? People were stuck in cars for hours. It looked pretty full late in the game. We can hate them, but let's be truthful.
Right on ---and they are a good team---interesting talk about they have a target for 60 "deflections" a game---never heard of that before---they play Huggins-ball

Hmmm... that is interesting. You sure that wasn't Pitino that said that? I never heard of this before and in a video with Pitino I saw today he was saying they have a target of 40 deflections a game and only got 20 against Clemson.

If Huggins said this also it is two coaches in a row that talked about this and, I have never heard a coach talk about it before.

You may not know this but route 70 was closed yesterday afternoon for several hours in both directions yesterday afternoon/early evening because of a 30-plus car wreck. Further east the turnpike was also closed for several hours because of wrecks due to the weather.

I guess you missed all that.

Actually, I did miss that. What was meant to be a smart ass comment by me, well it backfired a bit.. My apologies to all mountaineer fans travelling yesterday, your voyage and it's difficulties were under appreciated by yours truly. Safe travels going forward to all residents of West By God Virginia..

Also, I don't know where Kansas stayed but their bus didn't get to the Coliseum until about an hour before the game even with a police escort because the roads were so bad.

Ralph Willard talked that up, too. He's a Pitino disciple, of course, worked for Boeheim, too.

WVU has only played two teams that will make the NCAA tournament. They are 1-1 with those two.So lets not proclaim them Nation champs just yet.I have my doubts if they make the sweet16 this year. They can't shoot it worth a darn and that will get them in the end!Hats off to the fans that showed up last night, the roads were unbelievable in Mo-town last night.
