Pitt goes into Saturday with plenty of doubters.
I think they could give a rats behind about the doubters.
But I think they care very much about what their group thinks of itself.
They know what the name Syracuse means (in spite of their relative mediocrity). They know that CUSE under that whiny SOB is regarded as the standard bearer of eastern basketball and that Pitt’s glory days came in the Big East.
Some snot nosed voter in Spokane will think of a 20 point victory over some other team is ho hum, but will read a 1 point win over CUSE as a parting of the Red Sea.
99.9% of college basketball is perception and our guys damn well know they have something to prove.

It’s a big game to get fans back to Pitt basketball being an event.

Good timeslot, Saturday, big name opponent, sold out crowd, good chance to win.

Otherwise they are probably about as good as their record says, and it’s like any other game in terms of building that resume.
