....and I'll fight anyone who says differently. ;-)

Toledo
Temple
Northwestern
Washington State

Northwestern is the only one of the teams both posters mentioned I think that has an argument for being ranked where they are. The rest of the teams are incredibly overrated and Pitt should be ranked much higher than. Toledo and Temple being the biggest jokes of the polls this week.

The only poll that matters is the final one. There is still quite a bit of meaningful football to be played before the final poll votes are tallied. Hail to Pitt!

Wow. I miss the days when people evaluated football teams and talent with their eyes. Endless talk of analytics and resumes make me feel like sports are becoming the real nerds obsession.

Good teams, but their resumes are not impressive enough to be ranked.

Our resume is good enough to be ranked?

If we are lucky, we will have one or two wins over teams that have a seven win season.

I'm not saying I'm not happy with Pitt's season; Nard dog has done a fantastic job and I'm very optimistic. But we need a reality check here, people. Pitt's ACC wins are against teams with a combined conference record of 16-28. That is hardly spellbinding.

Washington State is playing very well right now. I know they had an ugly start, but as of today, I wouldn't feel confident saying we are better than the Cougars.

If seems to me that beyond the Top 10 teams the goal of rankings is to be inclusive.
For example the only good team Toledo beat was Arkansas.
The only "not so good teams" Houston beat were The Ville and The Bearcats?
How does that get either of these teams a top 25 ranking???
I believe the goal is to include all conferences and geography explaining the Washington St ranking.
Go Pitt!

Northwestern lost to Iowa 41-10 at Northwestern, lost to a ranked Michigan 38-0, but beat a ranked Wisconsin team tho! Pitt did lose all their games against ranked teams, but they were all pretty close!

it happened almost 20 years ago. maybe get with the times. eyes are biased and misleading.

People still do. And comparing "resumes" has been around forever. Has to, given that each team only plays about 10% of the teams out there.

I think the more accurate and simple answer is that most people see 10-1 as better than 8-3. We've seen Pitt benefit from that line of thinking in the past.
And again, regarding Washington State, they have road wins against Oregon and UCLA. What do you think this board would be like if Pitt had wins like that on their resume?

I dream that someday on the Lair and Everywhere we all will wake up and find out that Pitt Football Program is better than all Top 25 Teams and now I look forward to post like this because that means Pitt is progressing towards that dream and they have a Coach that thinks and coaches that way too, Some Day Soon Pitt Will Win It All Just Like In 1976!

Some Day Soon!
