Pitt and PSU both have owners of NFL teams. Just out of curiosity, which donates more to football/basketball? I'm not even counting Pegula's massive hockey donation because that's just stupid.

Tepper does well by CMU. I think Pitt's administration and long time trustees seem oblivious on how to woo and court big donors and have for decades.

If you exclude the hockey donation (which is certainly a hell of an exclusion) then I believe Tepper has donated more to Pitt’s football and basketball programs than Pegula has given to Penn State’s football and basketball programs.

Actually, DT has already given boat-loads of money to Pitt, and I've been told that Heather Lyke has a good professional relationship with him......

He is perennially one of Pitt's largest athletic department donors. But it's always way more fun to spend someone else's money, and if he's a rich guy so much the better, because he can afford what you want to spend.

No way for me to know but it's pretty plausible that Tepper was at least one of the main parties if not the sole one to pony up to buy out Stallings. That was too big a chunk for Pitt to absorb and still be able to hire a decent replacement like Capel.

Not true Recruits. He's been woo'd for many years. And he's donated a lot to Pitt. Although we would all like more, he is currently more financially invested in CMU which is his right.

I'll be happy to see him provide more as time goes on. Just might not be big chunks.

Indeed. A self-made billionaire doesn’t need me advising him on how to spend his money.....

I’m assuming you mean athletics related donors? Because it’s been less than a decade since Pitt completed a $2B campaign. You don’t do that by ignoring big donors.
