Out of the Top 20 ranked in state recruits on another site, guess how many Texas signed in 2017?

If you guessed 1 you would be correct. And that kid eeked in at #20. I realize it is tough with a new coaching staff, but you would think a school like Texas would do a lot better in state. Imagine what a troll like SVPanther would be saying if Pitt got just one of the top 20 in PA.

I made a topic about this on NSD but Texas is irrelevant in their own state now

It has to eat up their fanbase that 5 star players are committing to Ohio State rather than any one of Texas, TX A&M, Baylor...

They have been barely a .500 team since 2010. The kids that are being recruited only know them as a barely .500 team. That can take a bit of time to overcome unless you enroll the bagmen to recruit.

They are still Texas and they just hired Tom Herman. I suggest we hold off on the eulogies. They will be just fine within 2–3 years maximum.

Dr Von Yinzer is correct....anyone that thinks the Longhorns are left for dead arent paying attention.

it wasnt long ago that James from State College had a for sale sign in his front yard. The guy is recruiting very nicely....in an area nowhere near as loaded with players as Texas.

Herman will get his share and this wont be a story 6 months from now

PSU doesn't have much of any competition where they recruit besides OSU,Texas has a boatload of teams to compete with

I have to agree. A cautionary tale: when the Nits were down and reeling, Pitt didn't come close to taking full advantage of the Nits' misery. This, along with the dropping of the sanctions, enabled the Nits to re-build quickly to get to where they are now.

Texas' opponents had better get their licks in now, because - barring something unforeseen - Tom Herman is gonna boost the Longhorns back to levels where they haven't been in years.

Well, we kind of had our own self-imposed sanctions during that time, plus lumpy didn't have it in him to knock out PSU when he had the chance.

Also SVPanther's buddy Walt also had the chance to knock out the nits while they were reeling. Instead PSU's local recruiting got stronger instead of weaker (shipley, Lee, King, Pozluzny). Still waiting for SV to answer on that one, but being the troll he is remains quiet.

Never said they were dead. Just pointing out that even a factory like Texas struggles with keeping all the local talent at home. not just a Pitt problem. I'm sure Mccoombs will get those envelopes filled and delivered promptly next year.

Recruiting is somewhat national now. Texas tried to keep it all in-state and failed miserably. The real problem Texas has is that the SEC, Pac12, AAC, Conference USA, and the rest of the Big 12 found their way into the state to recruit. You can chuckle about the Conference USA mention but kids would rather go start at North Texas than be a quality depth chart guy at Texas now. That's kind of a big deal.

It also doesn't help that the conference they play in has become something of a "dead man walking" in the P5 shake down.

They really didn't take advantage. OSU (and a few others like FSU and Stanford) just swooped in and took the bluechips that would normally go to Texas. The Big 12 recruiting, other than Oklahoma, was pretty bad this year.
The b12 is a conference that is on its death bed. Recruits know it. TX and OK are always going to have a place at the big boy table so they should recruit well regardless. But more players are heading out of state to play. The rest of the conference is surviving on scraps and Juco's.

This is a good point. That conference is struggling badly.

In typical Pitt fashion our 6 coaches in 2 years debacle happened at the same time as the nit sanctions. Our recruiting was hurt as bad or worse than the nits. Franklin has been able to use the nit national brand to rebound the program. I think Duzz will do quite well against him once he establishes his own brand.
