Definitely the worst its been since we've been in the league.....which makes me kinda mad because if Capel would have hit on 1 of the Bigs he was recruiting, we maybe could have gone 12-8 or something like that. As I sit here watching Yale beating Clemson at home by 5 with 2 minutes left (and Clemson has 42 points), I figured it would be a good time to post how dreadful this league is.

I really think its only a 5 bid league this year. And 5/15 is horrible. Thats like 3/10 out of the Big East or Big 12. Swoffy Boy is going to have to have a Come to Jesus meeting with these coaches and AD's to figure out what's going on at the May Golf Trip that also doubles as some type of meetings. The easy answer to that is $EC recruiting.

Duke, UVa, Lou, and FSU are going to make the NCAA Tournament. Besides that, I think either NC State or VT make it. Mike Young at VT has done a legit fantastic job but neither one of those teams are going to have enough chances at getting Quad 1 wins.

This UNC team is bad without Cole Anthony. I wouldn't even be surpised if we were favored over them.

- This is the worst Syracuse team I've ever seen

- Wake, BC, and Clemson are like 4-16 bad. GT is right there with them.

- Pitt, ND, and Miami seem to be those middle of the pack type teams but none of those teams even look NIT-caliber, not to say they can't get there.

I mean its lot of things, not just SEC recruiting but I have been sounding the alarm bells for a couple years now. The ACC has a major problem right now.

1) No mention of Virginia being beaten badly at home by a so-so South Carolina team?

2) Yale is not a bad basketball team. Had they been at home they probably would’ve been favored over Clemson.

Virginia's players, as purely offensive players are utter garbage, pure garbage. They gave up 70 to South Carolina which shocked the heck out of me and aint to chance they are scoring close to that. Honestly, if you take this same Virginia team and make them go play for William & Mary and play in the CAA for WM's coach, they go 10-8 in that league. Instead, they'll go 17-3 in the ACC

Pitt basketball is bad but they will win 6 games I say in the ACC.
They shoot like shat , no inside game at all . T Brown should be in the Mac.

Have you seen college basketball in general?

It’s one of those years. Nobody’s very good.

I tend to agree with that. I’m on record as saying this is not one of Gonzaga’s more talented teams by a long shot, yet they may still be the best team in the country right now.

This Pitt team is not good.. against good teams they will get smashed.

I agree that this Pitt team isnt good. About at last year's level. No improvement. But by default, we have a chance at 8th or 9th place because the rest of the league got a lot worsr.

Well we're certainly not a very good team, but I do see us better than
last year's team. "No improvement"...I can't agree with that because
I see us much better on the inside with Hamilton and Champagnie.
They are both better than Chuka, and we still have Brown and Toney
who are certainly not worse than last year.
Our guards are having some troubles, but I see that as part of their growth.
As a whole IMO they are not worse than last year even though X has been
up and down. Capel is having them change their games, and more players
are getting involved as a result. I see this as a good thing.

As far as your comments about the rest of the ACC...I agree.

Johnson was better last year.....by a lot

McGowens looks about the same

JWF way better than Murphy. That offsets Hamilton and Champagnie.

Yale is a very good team. They may pull an upset in the tourney.

Johnson’s numbers this year are almost the same as his numbers last year. His scoring is down because he is taking fewer shots and getting to the free throw line less. Maybe you mean some other Johnson, not X.

Gilbert maybe?

Maybe you should replace Swofford since you have been “sounding the alarm bells”

Tyrese Samuel finally had a nice game for Seton Hall last night. That’s the only guy we ever really had a shot with that we recruited last year. His career is going to be interesting to watch. I never liked him while watching him play on the EYBL so didn’t mind that we passed.

Yes I know the game was against an HBCU.

He would have played as much for us as he could have standed. Instead, he is riding the bench for Seton Hall. My how times have changed. SHU struggled mightily with Prairie View yesterday. Watched a little bit hoping for an upset

I didn’t really pay attention but is Powell back? He had a pretty bad concussion. The Big East May match the ACC in bids.

I'm not sure that Samuel would have played any more than Coulibaly is playing now. Still would have liked him in the 2019 class, especially since we never filled the 13th scholarship.

Also, to the subject at hand, Pitt is a significantly better team than they were last year. In 2018-19, Pitt was +6.35 in kenpom, #101 overall, with the #168 offense and the #70 defense. This year, Pitt is +10.73 in kenpom, #70 overall, with the #107 offense and the #54 defense. Pitt isn't going to win many aesthetically-pleasing games in the ACC, but that shouldn't be mistaken with Pitt not being any better than they were last year. They are.

He isnt back and yes, the Big East may match the ACC in bids. From a percentage of the league basis, I'd expect the ACC, Pac 12, A10, and American to finish in the bottom 4 of major D1 leagues.

SMF is way over reacting, IMHO.

IMO, the only thing he is right about is that the ACC is down relative to last year. And as has been pointed out, all of college basketball is having a down year. These things happen, its normal, the world isn't coming to an end.

That the ACC is down is easily illustrated by comparing the league at the end of last year to now. One way to do that is to compare the league's Sagarin ratings for those two points in time (See Below). However, these same stats also argue that Pitt is improved from last season irrespective of the league being down overall. Here are those ratings--

ACC (End Last Season)

1 Duke = 95.95
2 Virginia = 95.32
5 North Carolina = 93.49
13 Virginia Tech = 88.81
16 Florida State = 87.94
30 Louisville = 85.44
32 NC State = 84.97
35 Clemson = 84.38
41 Syracuse = 83.73
62 Miami-Florida = 80.05
81 Notre Dame = 78.44
98 Pittsburgh = 77.33
104 Georgia Tech = 77.00
110 Boston College = 76.58
154 Wake Forest = 73.00

ACC (Including Yesterday's Games)

1 Duke = 94.19
11 Louisville = 88.30
14 Florida State = 87.28
29 NC State = 84.96
42 Virginia = 83.72
43 North Carolina = 83.22
59 Syracuse = 81.53
66 Pittsburgh = 80.85
71 Virginia Tech = 80.52
73 Notre Dame = 80.41
76 Miami-Florida = 80.30
101 Clemson = 77.24
102 Wake Forest = 77.11
116 Boston College = 75.60
118 Georgia Tech = 75.54

Also, FWIW, Duquesne took a pretty big drop bu losing to UAB.

They were essentially Sagarin rated dead even with Pitt in the mid 60's. Now they are--

88 Duquesne = 78.52
