The 'big news'

So he gets caught cheating at YSU, parlayed that into a job at tO$U only to get caught cheating again. All the while acting like a sanctimonious scumbag. Yeah, he learned my a$$.

Does any of this sound familiar? I think the state is better off with it's own sanctimonious scumbag burning in hell; we don't need another.

I'm good with Tressel. Smart guy and would be a good AD. Learned from mistakes and people would know Pitt wasn't screwing around... would be a splash type hire

PITTSBURGH—University of Pittsburgh Chancellor Patrick Gallagher announced today Dr. Randy Juhl will chair the search committee that will recommend candidates for Pitt’s athletic director post.

Juhl, retired Vice Chancellor and Dean Emeritus of Pharmacy, chaired the university’s last athletic director search committee and was also instrumental in the recruitment of Pat Narduzzi as head football coach. Juhl served as Pitt’s acting athletic director in 2015.

“I am very grateful that Randy Juhl has agreed to chair this committee,” Gallagher said. “Randy is widely respected, both personally and professionally. He has been a tremendous asset in our past searches and his experience will be invaluable as we identify outstanding candidates to be our next athletic director.”

Juhl said he appreciates the opportunity to serve Pitt Athletics in leading the search.

“I wish Scott Barnes and his family the very best and want to express appreciation for his important contributions to Pitt,” Juhl said. “We will now conduct a full-scale national search and I’m confident we will attract some excellent candidates for what is an exceptional opportunity.”

Gallagher additionally announced that the search will be assisted by DHR International, a highly regarded executive search firm that Pitt has partnered with on past recruitments.

Appointments to the search committee, as well as additional insight on transitional leadership for Pitt Athletics, will be announced in coming weeks.

First to break Barnes leaving for OSU
First to break a name interested in the Pitt AD job.
Always on top of it when a kid commits.

Ya, his site stinks.

I feel better with Juhl in charge.

So what? He's running an athletic department, not coaching. He is more qualified than just about anyone i can think of. You want some 40'year old carpetbagger to come in and leave after 3 years? He would have to be the best candidate Pitt could ever hope to attract, plus he's the one who is reaching out to Pitt. It would be a home run.

At 64 what is your take on the length of his tenure ?
I'm not saying I would say yes or no. My gut says yes, he probably would like to finish strong and PITT fills that bill.

PSN reports that the big news was that Jim Tressel has reached out to Pitt through a search firm to show interest in the AD job. It does say that Pitt has not reciprocated or spoken to Tressel. It adds that fund-raising is a big priority for an AD, and Tressel would be a splash with that.
I'm not against it. He would bring A Lot of attention to the program. 80% good, 20% bad. Sounds good.

Seriously if Jim tressel has actually reached out to Pitt and they don't hire him, I have zero faith in how they do hirings. The tressel-narduzzi Youngstown connection could potentially do wonders for us in recruiting.

You're welcome to your opinion of course but he got a 5 year show cause laid on him. Because of that alone there are plenty of schools who wouldn't even consider him. I'm not saying I agree or disagree - that's just how it is.

I'm expecting Pitt won't consider him but we shall see.

I agree. If Jim Tressel has expressed an interest in Pitt's AD position then hire him. The search is over.

I don't know what to think about Tressel but I trust Juhl and Gallagher get it right. Tressel could be great or could be another Majors 2. He's been away from football for awhile.

JT will get Pitt back to being big time in football much faster.....but it will come with questions of did he do anything shady to get us there. Another AD will move things along in a slower manner and struggle through things.

Yeah I see where you're coming from, so I'm not really disagreeing with you. I just don't think Pitt is in position to not consider him. He would be far and away the highest profile person to consider a position at Pitt in decades. Really only skip prosser showing interest in the hoops job is anywhere close.

I think tressel only took a president job to stay relevant during the show cause years. If he doesn't want to coach again, an ad position is what id guess he's looking for. I could be wrong, but if Pitt doesn't snag him I really believe another school will sooner than later. Most guys that have brought upon NCAA sanctions have been looked at as "sleazy coaches" and such. I don't think most consider tressel that, I've always found him to be very likeable. His downfall was his total commitment to his players at all times.

Oh I think he can be likable. I'm sure he's very charismatic. But that doesn't preclude him from being sleazy. I happen to think he's both. Or was. Perhaps he's learned his lesson - I don't know. But plenty of people thought he was up to no good way back when he coached YSU.

Forget his name is Jim Tressel.

If a current D1 president and former VP for fundraising at another D1 university who has won a NC at another D1 university wants to be your AD, you ask when he wants to start.

Yes, Tressel has done some "bad" things. Covering up for kids getting free tattoos, I mean the humanity! But the good far outweighs the bad.

You want Narduzzi here long-term? You want want to compete with the big boys? Then, you go big!!!

Tressel or Radakovich means Gallagher wants an on-campus stadium. You don't hire a big name like that and expect them to screw around in a neon yellow stadium that's 25K seats too big.
Pitt athletics is all about the money so when you can explain to me how building an on campus facility in Oakland ,no less , could possibly generate enough cash to pay for itself I'll listen to the on campus nonsense.
Ps... getting in and out of Oakland even for a bb game is a hassle FB was ridiculous .

Yeah I agree I think it's a no Brainer if he interviews well and it makes sense then hire him. He is a smart dude, well spoken and has experience.

Yeah there was probably some questionable things going on way back when he was at YSU but that was so long ago. He's thought of enough currently to be chosen president of YSU and very likely could have been at Unuv if Akron.

If he's really interested, this should be a no-brainer for Pitt. And in this case, rather than just a general opinion on my part, it's based more on direct experience. My wife is no where near a sports fan and actually despises it because of the attention it gets, particularly at schools. Well she happens to work at the University of Akron and had a pre-conceived notion of Tressel because of his sports background. That completely changed after meeting him at Akron. Very personable and down to earth guy, remembers anyone and everyone he meets, did a lot of good things at Akron, and great at networking. If fundraising is a primarily goal for the Pitt AD, he would fit the bill.

Haven't Urban Meyer and Nick Saban been described as "sleazy", too? Yet who on these boards would refuse to hire them - if the opportunity ever presented itself?

That's exactly it. The tressel-narduzzi Youngstown connection could be a really good thing for Pitt for one. And personally I don't think what tressel did was that big of a deal. Certainly not enough to tarnish his great coaching career. I agree, if Pitt wants to compete with the big boys, you hire a guy like tressel when he comes knocking. I'd have a really hard time buying that there is someone else on their list that is more qualified.

I could guarantee you there would be people on here saying Pitt better not hire either of those two.

People are acting like the Youngstown bond between Tressel and Narduzzi is a key factor.

I may be overthinking it and it's been a long time but remember this: Pat's dad, Bill, was fired and replaced with Tressel in the 80's. Pat wasn't happy about it and transferred from YSU.

I completely agree. He should be announced before the Pinstripe Bowl to take advantage of the National Press Coverage.

-Seriously. You have Penn State raping little kids. You have a full blown whore house being run at Louisville. You have Oklahoma football committing assault and battery on women and knocking them out. You have North Carolina inventing classes for basketball players to pass. You have murder going on at Baylor. The NCAA will continue to do nothing. They are run by sheep.
The only enforcement mechanism I ever worry about is the mirror.
