What High Schools no longer exist? Please, I would like to try and limit this to High Schools that maybe existed in the 70's or later, not like some HS from 1940.

General Braddock was a name I remember. Churchill too. Swissvale. I think they became part of Woodland Hills.

Others??

why limit to the 70s or later, weren't a lot of the WPa schools consolidated in the late 60s? Like your own Har-Brack and Tarentum and my own West Deer and East Deer-Frazer?

Germantown an Fairchance Georges combined with Albert Gallatin in the 80s I believe. Also, Jim Kelley went to East Brady which I believe no longer exists.

Did Wilkensburg join Woodland Hills?

If you mention those, you must mention Turtle Creek high too!!

Kelley went to East Brady HS.

Did East Brady HS become part of Karns City HS? If not what school?

Thanks in advance
NGF

PS - Nanty Glo HS, Vintondale HS and Blacklick Twp HS merged to come Blacklick Valley HS (aka Glo High) in early 70s

Crafton and Carnegie school districts merged at some point in the 60s or 70s to form Carlynton.

Yes, East Brady is part of Karns City SD. I just wrote that above.

Bald Eagle and Lock Haven I believe consolidated into central mountain.

There also used to be a Fifth Avenue High School as well as a Sewickely High School.

Central Valley in Beaver County evolved from somewhere I believe. Add Midland from the same area.

The kids from Midland were left out in the cold. They had no place to go because the other schools close by (Beaver, South Side Beaver, etc.) did not want to take them in. They were going to merge with East Liverpool, but then the Superintendent of Midland came up with the idea of a Cyber Charter School in order for those kids to finish. That is where PA Cyber School got its roots. Then that idea took off and they expanded into taking in kids from all over the state. Lincoln Park came about over time and that is where a lot of kids from Midland now attend.

Oakmont Verona games in the decade of the 60’s were epic. The red and black against the purple and gold.

Just a few. Turtle Creek. Braddock. North Braddock Scott. Redstone. The aformentioned Har-Brack and Terentum. Frazier. Monaca. Before the mass mergers of the 60s practically every little town had their own high school.

I read an article about 10 years ago that listed every school by district in the state that no longer existed. It was fascinating and nostalgic..

That article would be a treasure to read, especially for someone who went to high school in WPa in the 60s.

Yeah but there were so many consolidated in the 60's based on some state guidelines. I didn't want to get into every HS from way back when.

There was a South Hills Catholic. Did that become Seton LaSalle?

South Catholic was the all boys school that merged with the all girl school called Elizabeth Set on to form Seton LaSalle. While not mergers Mon Valley Catholic and Immaculate Conception closed in the late 80's and most of those students ended up at either Set on or Canevin.

Yes - that is where Dick Groat went to school.
Yeah. Woodland hills consists of Churchill , Swissvale , Turtle Creek , Braddock , and East Pittsburgh .
The Wolverina although big at one time (Turtle Creek Creekers stadium) became huge in the mid 80's . Good times .

Also includes Rankin, North Braddock (Scott HS) and Edgewood. The original merger combined Braddock, North Braddock, and Rankin to create General Braddock, and then about ten years later, the rest of them were combined.

I don’t live in the area anymore, but apparently I was given some bad information. Was told that the kids from Wilkinsburg now attended Westinghouse high school.

Absolutely right .

I also remember the Rankin Tigers too, they slashed up our school bus during one football game back in the day, we never played them again.
