Win or lose tonight, I was going to post this thought. Either JD re-energizes the program soon OR he should do the honorable thing and step down, give somebody else a try.

Dixon has done a lot for PITT and hopefully he can help this program go on another run this decade. However, I have my doubts.

I am not suggesting a university initiated severance. PITT really can't afford to pay Dixon not to coach at PITT while they hire somebody new at a premium and then watch another rebuild.

The university has made Dixon a very wealthy man. The repayment from Dixon would be to do the honorable thing if the he can't recruit and coach a team to score above 50 points in a tournament game against a very winnable opponent at some point again this decade (probably sooner). (just one game and that does not make a season and career, but......this is hardly the first time it has happened throughout his tenure)

I have no argument with this. When do we all reach the point when maybe the whole arrangement is no longer good for all parties involved?

If Jamie was in corporate, HR would be talking to him next week about a very generous package...following many years of outstanding service, unfortunately punctuated by the last several years of not meeting company expectations. And perhaps, after a one year sabbatical, Jamie can begin anew with another program...

Like I said in other thread, winning ugly is one thing. We can overlook that most of the time. Losing ugly though---everybody has their limit. I think I reached mine tonight.

Tonight was the equivalent of Wanny's loss to cinci...he lost the hearts and minds of a good portion of the fan base tonight including a lot of people on the fence.

I dont think its coaching so much as jamie can really coach. But you have to recruit pros to go far in the tourney nowadays and we dont. Yes, Lamar is a pro but it took 4 years to get there. With Blair and young it was a different story.

No, it was the equivalent of Wanny's loss in the Sun Bowl 3-0 against Oregon St. both teams played like crap and we still lost!

Yes, I agree that is a better analogy. Either way it leaves a PITT fan with an unsavory taste in the mouth.
