This BC/UVa means everything

SVP just jumped Lunardi and said it doesn’t make sense UVA is over Pitt. He said he watches basketball and understands the metrics but Pitt is clearly better. Lunardi didn’t have an answer and actually agreed Pitt wins in a 7 game series.

Now Greenberg is on and defending Pitt. Said they need to be in and can make a run.

National media is confused.

SVp is lobbying HARD right now for Pitt

Disagree. But now compare resumes. You can't spin Pitt's resume to be better.
uVA is 2-7 in Q1, will have a worse SOS after tomorrow and lost to Pitt by 11 on their home court.

Pitt is 4-5 in Q1 and has a higher NET.
UVA is 10-9 in Q1-2 and Pitt is 9-8.
Pitt has 4 Q1 road wins and UVA has 1.

UVA struggled to beat a tired BC team in OT that Pitt and smoked 90-65 at BC 12 days ago.

And the fact UVA finished 3rd in the league is a testament to just how horrible ACC basketball is this year.

But I agree, UVA is garbage.

Huh?

Pitt has 2 more Q1 wins
10 spots higher in NET (tomorrow)
Beat UVa head to head and on the road, to boot

In no universe should UVa be ahead of Pitt.

True. But you can do lots of things if you start going there. Pitt struggled to beat a horrible Miami team that UVA destroyed. Pitt lost at Clemson. Pitt lost to Syracuse twice and UVA beat SU easily.

Pitt lost to Mizzou.

BC has scored 4 points in 11 minutes

Yes. Before that happened, I said BC is winning this game. I picked up BC +3.5 live, then I got moneyline +120 when they were winning by 2. They immediately went into a huge scoring drought.

But the Pitt moneyline +120 was all golden today. Tonight's game is +250. If we play well we can win this. Our guys are as confident as they have been all year. Dare I say our trio of guards are playing like a top 10 back court? Imagine this backcourt with Troutman and Chris Taft down low.

Thank you for this. I was going to request a resume comparison because I felt like Pitt had a better resume. And this kinda confirms it.

I find it interesting that “overall road and neutral records” are in the “most important” category…although alongside OOC strength.

Yeah it doesn't make sense from a comparing basketball teams standpoint, only from a "the NCAA doesn't like when teams only schedule easy home games" standpoint.

Yeah they were really lobbying for Pitt. And I agree, it is not just about the metrics, you look at Pitt, and they are a top 25-30 team right now. Wake is good. Pitt is really good.

And poorly coached. How do you not get Post touches down low.
UVA shoved Post way off the block and completely neutralized him in the last 3 mins. They wouldn't let him catch it anywhere where he could do anything with it. He still kept forcing stuff way outside his range, essentially turning the ball over every time he touched it with wild contested shots. Probably something to the exhaustion factor because UVA did whatever they wanted to BC in the last couple minutes defensively. .

No he's not. He's doing his job, as is Lunardi, Seth and everyone else on TV, which is to generate discussion and controversy where the opportunity arises to keep the viewers engaged.

Actual games are the least meaningful metric. Go check your NET and KENPOM, count your Qs and quit watching games and checking scores and standings.

Right. And these AD's with 80 hour/week jobs certainly arent watching any of these teams play before this week.

I completely agree. There’s absolutely no reason we should care if NC State beats Syracuse to move to a quad 1 win or if Mizzou keeps it a close loss so they don’t fall into a quad 4 loss.

The question should be “how good is your team?”. Not “how good were the teams you played against the teams they played against the teams they played?”.

yes all the viewers who care about the 10000th segment of Lunardi .. and all of those viewers who give a rats ass about Pitt hoops. Not really sure why you're trying to debate this.

I know some people dont but I love Jay Bilas. Everything that ever comes out of his mouth, I agree with. He is such a common sense dude. He said with all the advanced analytics, cant they put a value on a game based on the time it was played? Like losing to Missouri as a 7 poiny favorite before they lost Caleb Grill for the season, before Lowe started playing a lot, and after they won at Minnesota, really wasnt a terrible loss at that time.

I agree. That's another thing. Obviously, we should be a lock, but Wake should too. So many of those mediocre Big 10/12/East teams that the media anoints as safely in, Wake certainly takes them out on a neutral floor. I mean Northwestern? Oklahoma? Seton Hall? Dreck.

Post of the week right here! Exactly. What are we even doing? What happened to the NCAA Tournament we all grew up and loved? Analytics have ruined a lot of sports.

Head to head completion. Should count. We beat them handily on their home court not long ago.

He was announcing yesterday's Pitt game wasn't he? I remember that was said during that game and thinking, yes! That makes total sense!

Bilas is entertaining, smart, makes fun of himself, and truly loves college hoops above all. Don't really know why he gets the hate except that people don't like Duke (I mean me neither) or hold grudges about everyone in the media. This time of the year, I look forward to hearing from a few people, especially Charles Barkley (who clearly knows nothing about college basketball, which is quite entertaining), Bilas, and hearing games called by Bill Raftery and Stan Van Gundy.

Please stop with the Caleb Grill stuff. He is and always has been a mediocre player that’s never been a major factor for any of the 3 teams he’s been on. Was thrown off the team at Iowa St and was a headache in his one season at UNLV, guy is a problem in the locker room.

Yes they did. And other than the win at Duke, UVA is probably Pitt's most impressive win.

See the problem?
You can’t just discredit the win at Duke. Three teams won at Duke. #4 UNC, #6 Arizona, and Pitt.

Can you name another bubble team that has a top 10 win on the road?

Indiana State is 0-2 against major conference teams, both 10+ loss teams, losing by a combined 34 points. Their best win is against Drake, who beat them twice.

How's that most impressive win?

Bilas is the Herbstreit of college basketball. The best analyst in the business.

If you don't respect either of them or believe that they know what they are talking about, or if you consider them shills for this or that, that tells me everything about you from a fan knowledge standpoint.

I didn't say it was.

I certainly don't think Indiana State should be in over Pitt. My whole point is that I don't understand how so many people can think Pitt should be safely in with their resume. I mean if it were dependent on the last 15 games - absolutely. Based on the overall resume, that can go either way. Totally dependent on the whims of the selection committee.

A lot of people like to point out how bad Virginia is, which I don't disagree with... but I would argue that the UVA win is probably Pitt's most impressive win outside of Duke. Duke may be the only team Pitt has beaten that is safely in the tourney.

I think many bracketologists have made it clear Pitt is in trouble. And I understand that unfortunately for Pitt, recency bias is officially out. I am just reserving the right to be angry if e.g. Indiana State gets in over us with no big wins.

He was their 3rd best player. He gets hot for a game or 2 and they go 1-17 or 2-18 with him.
