Timothy Brown

Without any inside information, I would think that the most likely outcome is that the kid spends a year in a post-grad sort of program until the legal issues get sorted out. Kind of like that safety from Imhotep a few years ago who robbed the gas station, took an extra year at Glen Mills, and ended up at Iowa State.

How long does this take to get sorted out?? He’s not OJ. Is it really that long of a process?? Is his legal team fighting to change location of the trial to attract a better demographic for jury selection??

If they don’t know by now, then what is another month going to do?

These things can take months. For all kinds of reasons. The docket is slammed. Either lawyer asks for a continuance for any reason. The state attorney overcharged and is in plea negotiations. Either side is working on their evidence, etc. etc.

Brown was arrested in late October so it's been 3 months. That's nowhere near long enough to determine guilt or innocence. The only way he signs with us in February is if the state drops all charges before that, which I doubt they do.

Brown is currently on house arrest FYI. The chance of him signing with us next month are very low.

I can see this too. If only because Pitt may lose two interior linemen after this season. He could come in as a true freshman in 2021 and play, then after 2022 he'd be 3 years out of high school. So in true Pitt fashion, they could be the first school ever to lose a true sophomore to the NFL.

“His legal team”. Venue change for a high school football player on a robbery charge.

You’re kidding, right?

by the way, if he did what he’s specifically accused of, Pitt would be really stupid to take him. But it’s not gonna happen, he’s screwed. .

The cops supposedly have eyewitnesses and surveillance video confirming the victim’s version of events and that this was an extremely violent attack. The victim said Brown pointed a gun at his face and demanded his valuables just before they threw him out of a moving truck.

I’d say his only opportunity to play college football the next 2 years will be at Last Chance U.

Yes, I was being sarcastic.

Or even innocent...

I read that witness got caught lying about something...

It's going to be pretty hard to sign with anyone when he's behind bars. He ain't got a snow balls chance in hell of ever signing with Pitt.

Maybe they can negotiate work release. Let him practice and play games in an orange jump suit. I wonder how well he can run with chains around his ankles.

By post grad program do you mean jail?
In some places that's k-12.

I thought we already did with Fritz. He went to prep school for a year then started at Pitt as a true freshman and sophomore years then bolted. Do I remember wrong?
You are right. He went to Valley Forge Military Academy outside of Philly.I believe Josh Lay also played with Fitz before starting at Pitt.

My guess (and totally a guess) is that the stronger charges didnt stick and only the lesser charges remain. In that case, first time offenders are often given a chance at alternative dispute resolution, which basically means if they keep their nose clean for a year or so and do a bunch of community service, the charges get dropped. This could potentially be why the process is drawing out.

Maybe we can re-recruit him out of East Mississippi J.C. in 2021.

Give it up guy---he'll never set foot on the Pitt campus.

You know - I spent an hr one day looking into this situation, and it's far from clear what actually happened. But of course - you know better than the coaches - who are still recruiting him BTW.

Why wouldn't they if per chance(slim at that) the charges were dropped.

And I suppose you know better than the prosecutors, who actually have the evidence and are vigorously pursuing 2 felony charges against Brown.

The likely outcome here is Brown pleads to something. If it’s a felony, it’s a no-brainer to can him. If it’s a misdemeanor plea, with evidence that supports the felony charges, do you still take him? I say no way. And I’ll bet Narduzzi says the same.

The risk is never worth the reward for a kid with a violent crime rap.

I feel like grabbing someone a and putting then in a car against their will is something that will never turn out good.

I mean, going into that, what is the best case scenario? How does this work out well for you, even if everything goes as planned? Do you really act surprised after this when you are getting arrested? Like you didn’t see this coming.

If my buddies ask me to come along with them to grab a guy and put him in a car, I’m gonna need some clarification on the game plan and specifics before I commit myself to going along.

Narduzzi's mentor Dantonio made a bad decision on a very talented kid with this kind of baggage and that decision has damaged his program badly. Dooz is certainly very aware of that whole situation and I'd have to think it would make him extremely gun shy about taking a chance on a risky kid. This is a 22 man game and the downside risk is much greater then the upside reward for any one player with baggage, no matter how talented he may be. We lost 6 games with Aaron Donald on the the DL for chrissakes, we can do the same without Tim Brown.

They are likely to vigorously persue felony charges simply because these are young black men.

Why such a rush to judgement? Try to keep an open mind Badby.

Good post, and exactly the reason I am keeping an open mind. Duzz is an extremely cautious coach when it comes to "character", since he's kept after Brown...

I’ve been a trial lawyer for 25 years. .I think I understand the way the process works. You obviously do not.

Well I understand the legal "book" is stacked against certain people, so I try to keep an open mind, especially when the staff clearly is. What kind of law do you practice?

The kind where I’m in court every week.

The victim was a young African American kid too. Doesn’t he matter in this equation?

What’s your basis for concluding the staff is still recruiting Brown? How do you know he still has an offer?

I concede this discussion to you Sir. Sad to see you are probably right.
