Every situation is different. Every school has different aspirations and a different ceiling. Nothing to see here.

Sadly, it seems to say more about the school than about the individuals, imo.

All but Vandy has had at least 1 regular season with 2 or fewer losses since our last.

I have heard some variation of that because it is always brought up here, especially once Pitt gets that 3rd loss.

But I don’t think you are correct. A couple years ago UK had probably their best season since Bear Bryant when they beat PSU with Snell and Josh Allen et al. They still had 3 losses. Iowa State’s best year was the one that Sage Rosenfeld led them to a momentous Insight Bowl win over Pitt, while Barlow was slipping and sliding on the wet turf with the open roof controversy. 3 losses. I think those two are also in “the club”.

Im pretty sure that everyone one of those schools has played in a high caliber bowl game within the last 10 years. Pitt... nadda.

True dat. Proud football tradition company we are keeping.

High caliber? GTFO. The fact that you’re “pretty sure” but can’t give one definitive example says all that is needed about that lot, Pitt included.

I recall Arizona playing in the Fiesta under RR, Mizzou had some good teams under Pinkel and may have gone to a decent bowl. Wake played in the Orange and lost to Louisville under Petrino I?

Great thread to discuss.

My take, specifically regarding PN,

Most of us agree this program has a realistic ceiling of 9 wins. There may be a season of 10 and beyond, with a couple 8 win seasons mixed in.

To date, Narduzzi has delivered more of a 7 win program.

So the question becomes, is it worth the buyout of Narduzzi, buyout of his staff ( I think), hiring a new coach and staff and all the money that goes into that

for two more wins a year? And no guarantee at that?

I know fans would say yes. An Athletic Director would say yes if the funds were there.

But this is Pitt, we suck at donations and dont have coffers stuffed like the big boys.

Back to the original topic. If PN doesnt deliver next year, he probably is gone.

But the elusive 9 win program is still not here.
