Tweet re: Danny Hurley

Uconn is gonna end up with sanctions and may be further from winning a title than our program is. They’re routineley getting beat by 30 in a worse conference. Not sure Danny would see that as a step up.

I hope you are right. I would be very happy if he becomes our HC.

It looks like we would have to pay a 1.25 million dollar buyout on his contact.

Of course any Pitt fan would be thrilled with Hurley. I may prefer Sean Miller but I'd do a dance of we hired Hurley. Just cant imagine him giving up a good situation unless a really big job opened.

I wouldn’t think so either. Especially as it seems he wasn’t interested last time around. But it’s a new day with a new AD and money certainly talks. And nobody thought VaTech would have gotten Buzz.

Haha only a dope would not want Hurley. That's not the issue. Just like 2 years ago you jobbers just assumed every hot coach wanted the Pitt job. Hint they didn't. Hurley passed on Pitt 2 years ago. What makes you lunatics think Hurley is now interested. lol

Because he passed on it two years ago because we had just pushed out our most successful coach ever and maybe he feels our fans have learned their lesson?

actually it is a positive. Easier road to the tournament.

Yeah but the big lights, big names, the big recruits would rather play here in the ACC than the AAC. UConn was not just screwed by the fact that we and the Cuse went to the ACC, but that the Catholic schools splintered off into the basketball only Big East. That job would be much more desirable if UConn was in the Big East with Nova, G'town and St Johns.

Decided to see if there were any other tidbits and found this. But how many jobs like that are there and how often do they come open?

I am all for far-out scenarios but Danny Hurley is the #1 HC prospect in college basketball right now. URI will easily bump him above $2 million. I don't know in what universe Danny Hurley elects to leave URI to coach Pitt for an extra $500K when he can just stay at URI for another 1-2 years until a really big job opens like Michigan State, Syracuse, Kentucky, Arizona, Texas, etc.

Why do people think Syracuse is a "big job"? If Syracuse is a big job then so is Pitt. Syracuse is Syracuse because of Boehiem. That's it. They are UConn but in the ACC.

Get out of here. Its a storied program who leads the entire world (including the NBA) in attendance every year. They have $$$$$$$$! $

And ftr I don’t think hiring Hurley is ikely either. But if they are going after him or plan to at least they’re shooting high. You’d all kill the administration if they didn’t at least cast the line.

Must be something on the pay side. Certainly not asking for anyone to post any of that info but saw this and thought I’d share. Guessing that means that’s who they’ve set their sights on.

Just for the sake of not letting people draw the wrong conclusion, and that conclusion over time being considered a fact.

1) Matt did not mention any coach by name. He in no way shape or form posted, hinted or implied ANYONE.

2) Matt did not relay any information or speculation as to what the admin was thinking or doing.

What Grubbs posted should have been a reply in the thread, not an open comment with 99% of the world unable to know the context.

Anyone bother to take a look at his year by year coaching record in the A10? Pretty sure the HOF won't be calling anytime soon.

Disclaimer: this is NOT a Stallings endorsement post.

Yeah, he stepped into a bad situation, and the team got better every year. What do you think Chuck Noll's record looked like after 5 years? It was 33-37. Boy, what a bum he must have been. When a coach steps into a total rebuild, his overall record is going to look unimpressive until he's been there 9-10 years, because his first teams are going to suck. If a new coach comes here, guess what, we're going to stink next year, and probably the year after.

Longer sustained success. 1964 (Dave Bing arrives) to the present I think they've only had one losing season. Yes, mostly that's their coach, but not only that. It's like Dixon times two plus a national title obviously.

This is simply not true. But let’s keep making stories up anyway.

Barnes had Stallings pegged from the very beginning. Anything else said is garbage

Yeah, it is really good. He got through his 2 rebuilding years and has gone 13-5, 9-9, 13-5, and 12-0 (so far this year) in the A10. Hell, 8 conference wins (in 4 fewer games) in his 1st 2 seasons looks great compared to where we currently are.

Yeah. Anyone who doesn't think Cuse is a bigger job than Pitt, well, I just don't know what to say. Fred Lewis took them from an afterthought, to a solid program. Still, they remained in the shadow of then powerful St. Bonnies until Danforth took them to the Final Four in 1975. They haven't had a losing season since 1969.

Don't forget that the 9-9 year came when his best player was lost for the season in the very first game of the year.
