What a joke. They released the real champ, Ngannou, over failed contract talks. Dana White bad months him and then sings Jon Jones, to fight for the heavyweight title. Jones' last fight was almost three years ago, as a light heavyweight, and he shouldn't have received the decision. That was a fixed outcome. But this takes the cake.

I used to watch the UFC a lot up until about 7-8 years ago. Got too boring for me as it evolved more into a grappling/submission type sport. Not many guys stand up and punch anymore which I can understand but its less entertaining. Nothing beats the OG UFC with no rules and no weight classes. That was some of the best entertainment in TV history

Jones is maybe the best fighter that they have ever had. And, to your point, he has not fought in three years. There is a huge demand to see him, especially as he has put on a ridiculous amount of muscle. He was going to get a title shot whether it was Ngannou, Stipe or Gane.

Both he and Ngannou have spent the bulk of the past few years complaining how they would get stiffed by the UFC in a potential superfight, with Ngannou wanting to do crossovers where he would make a TON of money with Tyson Fury and UFC either not allowing it or wanting the bulk of the cut.

I find it hard to be upset with anyone here though it appears that the UFC stretched Ngannou's contract as long as they legally could (and probably were out of legal recourse, because it is not like them to let anyone out of a contract when there is money to be made).

But, Ngannou will make around $25-50M to fight Fury, Jones gets his title fight/money (I do not think he cares about the who as much as the title and money), Gane gets another shot to which he is deserving and UFC will continue making boatloads of money. No losers here though you would think there was a deal with Ngannou to be made for all parties to win.
