Upitt89.... Where does this put us?

has to help obviously, winning on the road. Reports of our death greatly overstated, including by me.
Any one win probably guarantees at least Dayton.

Two wins guarantees dance at around 8 or 9 seed.

Three wins gets us white shirts for first game (6 or 7 seed)

I think one win against either Duke or L-ville guarantees Dayton. I don't think only one win against just Ga Tech or Va Tech is enough.

Disagree. The syracuse, duke, and Louisville games were all equivalent. We needed one of those.

Then we needed one of the final two.

Youre doing what too many others do. Devaluing Pitt's wins.

Our resume is solid enough for Dayton with just one more win.

Pretty accurate but I think we're pretty comfortably ahead of playing in Dayton right now. As long as we don't fall apart we're going straight to the first round. If we can win 3 and somehow move up to a 6 seed though that would be huge.

I'm not trying to say that I'm sure you are wrong and I respect your knowledge and opinion on the subject.

Let's just agree that if we get 2 or the next four, we are in for certain.

We're not beating duke , we could very well beat UL on Wednesday though
Not sure why you would think we'd have a better chance beating Lou than Duke. Both will be tough.

Best thing about today's win is it provides separation between us and a team we could have been fighting against for one of the last spots in.

We're in much better shape after today but I wouldn't go as far as saying 1 more win and we're definitely in. 2 yes.

1) Beat Duke or Ville, and lose the rest. 11 Seed
2) The only win is against GT or VT. Dayton
3) Win any combo of 3 more the rest of the year. 7 Seed
4) Any Combo of 2 wins. 8-9 Seed
5) Any combo of 4 wins. 6 Seed

I just think we will beat Louisville at home , some good momentum right now and solid defense today .. Also Louisville is hot and cold .. Duke just has way to many guys that could go off against us .. If Lee is off for Louisville they don't win

I like your confidence but, unless we catch them disinterested because we are not Duke or Carolina, their tough man-to-man D and the fact that they have a serious inside game, they are likely just as tough if not tougher than Duke!

When you say this, are you including the ACC tournament? That is, if they lose the last 4 regular season, and win one in the ACCT?

Agree. I think Duke would be easier than Louisville again but both games will be very tough for Pitt. I just want them to be competitive, not blown out by 20 or something. Play both teams tough in both halves.

I agree, especially with the history of how the refs have let Louisville hack the crap out of us with their press. Now if the refs happen to call the game as it should be called, we have a much better chance.

IMHO, we need a non-losing ACC record including the ACC tourney to be in the NCAAs.

This means if we get only 1 more regular season we can't do worse than 1-1 ACC tourney (10-10 ACC record) to get in. I don't think 9-10 ACC hacks it.

Two more regular season wins guarantees an NCAA slot, IMO.

Of course, this is just one Pitt fan's opinion and with Louisville ineligible that may not hold.

I realize the need to pile up wins.... the Wake game counts as a win no matter how ugly and the 'Cuse game counts as but one.
But more important to me is whether we are gelling.
My pre-game post (because this is all and only about me) pondered our reaction to the inevitable adversity we would face in the so long Carrier Dome.
From that perspective this was an A+.
String that effort over the next 4 weeks and ....well....stranger things have happened.
Not a fan of getting into the dance but I am a fan of overachieving in March.

For the psyche of the program, just making March and not folding again would be huge. Who knows, we could make a deep run if we get there, but I am not so sure about that. But just getting there, for this crew, may be a step in the right direction. But I know thing absolutely for sure. You can't make a deep run if you don't make it to the Dance.

Lunardi was just talking about how bad yesterday was for the bubble. Pitt probably is ahead of 10 teams right now (first 4 included). Great for me bc I have a bottle of Makers Mark on us getting in with my jagoff Duke fan cousin.

If they play like they did today with MY, JA and JROB all playing well they will get into the dance. More importantly, if all three can get on a roll at play up to their capabilities on BOTH ends of the floor and guys like Jones and Luther can continue their level of play, this team will not only get in but be a legitimate threat to upset and advance in the TOurney.

Regarding the Ville game, it really depends upon how the game is called IF they let the mugging go like they did in the last game I don't give Pitt much of a chance because this team is not comprised of street brawlers like they were in the past. IF its a fairly closely called game I like Pitts chances a lot if they play D like they did today.

Duke.........Pitt will have to have their A game on both ends of the floor.

None of the games left are easy. THey will need to continue to play at the same level they did against the cuse. Shoulld be interesting and fun to watch

I think 2 more wins, in the regular season or ACC tournament gets us in the dance. One MIGHT, because the bubble is very soft this year.

I have little realistic hope of beating the Ville or Duke. We just don't match up with either. My most realistic hope from those games is not to get blown out and not to go into the kind of tailspin the last 2 Louisville games seemed to cause. Be respectable and get a win or two on the roadcabd in the ACCT.

No, I was not counting the ACCT tourney. I think they need one of the last four regular season games.

Since you get at least one game in the ACC tourney--they have at least 5 more before NCAA tourney field is selected. I think they need to win 2 of those 5 to be in--hope it doesn't come down to needing to win that first ACC tourney game to get the second ( or worse yet needing 3 in the ACC tourney to get because they go 0-4 the rest of the regular season).

Well, yesterday they where saying that 'Cuse was definiely in, and we where "on the bubble", now we've beaten 'Cuse twice and at their place with Boeheim, so why wouldn't we not be on the "definitely in" list now?

Agree that the matchups are brutal! The Ville game will be a great gauge to see where we are at following this big win. The last game at the Ville, I thought the referees let them get away with a bit of rough play but I did not feel like they were the story. I felt like they punched us in the mouth and we just layed down for them. We have not looked like a typical Pitt team all year until maybe yesterday. Our defense was improved, but I still think the fact that Syracuse plays zone is the overwhelming reason why we beat them regularly.

Louisville as we know is much different. They are a grind you to the bone man-to-man full court press team. They will try to run us into the ground, and we will have to exhibit more mental toughness than we have in this one game than we have all our other games combined. They will exert the type of pressure on us that could make us crack, and we could get blown out and look like a team that does not care again.

THe thing is, while the Ville may be athletically superior, we do have enough talent to stay in the game. We have got to come in with a chip on our shoulder and be ready to battle. We can't get beat on and quit. That is what makes this game so intriguing. I still, unlike many, believe in Jamie, and I think our players do as well. I guess we will find out soon if they are mentally strong enough to withstand the Louisville pressure and play a strong physical brand of hoops and not back down from the "bully".

Well, we had a near-death experience in that Wake game. It took a defibrillator to save us.

Tentatively off life support.
Agree!
But not sure we out of intensive care and into recovery yet!
Its once thing to make the tournament that's all good. We've accomplished that a bunch of times so now its time to actually show up and win some games.
But first things first lets win a few of the remaining games and build some momentum!

Barring a total collapse and an 0-4 finish I think Pitt is at the very worst going to be playing in Dayton in the first 4. Their RPI now being in the 30's is just too high for them not to at the very worst get in the field of 65. I really think they can go 3-1 in these last 4 and finish at 11-7 in the ACC. That combined with a win in the ACC tourney might be good enough to get them a 7 seed in the NCCA. I do expect Pitt to win against either Louisville or Duke at home. I don't see them losing both of those games.

I agree I think it's critical for Pitt to at least make the tourney this season and get this team once again moving forward in the right direction as opposed to taking a few steps back. You can't miss the tournament if your Dixon again. That would make it 3 times in 5 seasons and at some point soon if that keeps happening the talk of Dixon being replaced is going to continue to get louder.

You're on the money again!
When this team is focused and motivated they're really hard to beat and have huge upside potential. When they're off they're an easy mark. They need to establish default baseline performance that will keep them in games while they sort stuff out.
Being hard to beat is important because consistent tough efforts often end up with W's.
