USA Soccer thread spring/summer 2023

I haven’t done a lot of digging but it appears to be a unified team with Jews and Muslims…which is interesting.

This is probably a bad way to do it, but if you look at the names of the players several of them have what would stereotypically be considered Jewish names and others of them have what would stereotypically be considered Muslim names.

What a craptastic defense the US U-20's have. For the most part they've been comfortable on the ball, looked decent and get undone on the break twice. And now Cade Cowell will probably ball hog it.

That own goal, yikes, what an awful play by the defender. And he was under no real pressure.

It will take awhile for the final 3rd to ever come together. To me that has been one of the achilles heel's of the US national team...the ability to finish and be clinical in the final third.

Well deserved loss.

But hey, don't worry, we have our 2nd interim manager for the senior team. What a shambolic federation this is. And don't think for one minute that this guy from Southampton is going to be any type of hope...it's Southampton.

I have no idea who they're targeting but I'd rather they take their time and get the hire right than to worry about winning the Nations League and Gold Cup.

On a separate note, Uruguay is an amazing soccer country, given that they have less than 3.5 million people.

Respectfully, they took their time last time and we ended up with Derp-a-Derp. A spectacularly mediocre nepotism hire.

Uruguay does produce.

I didn’t realize this but Brazil and the US are perhaps the only two countries without a manager and a plan moving forward. And the reason Brazil is taking their good ole time is because they think they can wait for Carlo Ancelotti. I thought Carlo’s dream was to coach his wife’s native Canada. But if Brazil calls, I suppose you’re not saying no.

As far as the US goes, it’s not going to be a sexy hire. Who is going to come here and work for this crap organization for the peanuts we can offer?

Ironically a little before that own goal, that defender was named to the Senior team Gold Cup roster and there was a post on Facebook, that was then bombarded with some nasty stuff :)

I don't know how good Uruguay is, but the way USA dominated the previous 3 games, they were definitely a step up in competition, USA barely had any attack going on.

Our US U20 women lost to Mexico in the gold cup. Tessa Delarosa from Brownsville was in the starting lineup, as well as another girl from New England (South Shore Select) who I watched grow up and play since she was 9 years old dribbling around elite 12 year olds like they were pylons.

I’ve actually never seen Tessa play because she was a riverhound who played for Brownsville HS. Maybe she’s now the best player to come out of western PA. Would be interesting to see local girls coaches put up an all time top 10.

I’ve come up with 6 who are clearly separated from all the others.

Klingenberg (pine-Richland/Pgh Strikers/UNC/USWNT World Cup champion

dellerosa (Brownsville/Riverhounds/UNC/USWNT U20 World Cup)

Schram (canon Mac/Beadling/PSU/USWNT U20 World Cup champion/dapper Dan Sportswoman of the year)

Hill (Trinity/Beadling/WVU captain and all American

Stahl (baldwin/Beadling/WVU)

Latsgo (peters Twp/Century/Virginia/Houston Dash)

Ranking them in order is the tough part

I might put Frannie Crouse on the list too. She played at GCC and Beadling, scored over 40 goals at PSU, played on the USWNT U23 team and had one appearance in the NPSL for North Carolina Courage (drafted 10th overall) and scored a goal in her only professional match. She might even be top 5. Tough to debate the career she had. soccer was never her passion but was always the fastest player on the field. Imagine being that good without the amount of love for the game that her peers had. So I guess I have a top 7.

Do you consider Erie western Pa?
I was considering WPIAL I guess. I’ve watched a couple players from Erie grow up and play collegiately, Yaple from Pitt being one of them, and she’s nowhere near my list. Good player though.

Makena Silber(Erie) and Sammie White both better than Stahl.

I'm not a Stahl fan. She wouldn't be in my top 10.
I can understand that. I just looked up her career stats and compared them to Silburs.
Alina went to a powerhouse program at WVU and immediately became a force. She scored 50 points in 68 collegiate games and was a 2nd team regional all American and a one time national player of the week. Silber has scored 42 points in 67 games and was a 3rd team regional all American. Probably splitting hairs with those two. Silber I think has another year of eligibility. 2 of the best forwards I’ve seen play around here. Probably would still take both over Mertz.

Sami white is the example of preparation and hard work meeting opportunity at the right school at the right time at MSU. She has all the intangibles that have made her successful. A stud. And might play pro??She’s right there for me, honorable mention, but just a step below all the others who all happen to be skilled position players. She’d certainly be in a best Xl if forming an all time starting Xl. She’d be in my back 4 with Ally Walker (USC HS and tOSU), and maybe Mackenzie Aungst (Penn Trafford and WVU) and Maggie Bedillion(Trinity HS and WVU). Klingenberg would move forward into my attack somewhere.

It's about as far to the west side as you can get, Northwest if you want specificity.
Generally speaking when we are talking about western pa, we are talking about Pittsburghers, and the high schoolers in Pgh play in the western Pa inter scholastic athletic league (WPIAL) PIAA district 7. Western PA=Pittsburgh=WPIAL.

Erie is in District 10. I should have made the distinction. As an example, I really have never considered James Conner from Erie a Pittsburgher. But technically I’d say he lives in western pa.

I don't consider people from Beaver Falls as directly Pittsburghers. But I see your point, yes WPIAL defined as "Western PA" for high school sports. But I did grow up in New Castle and we played teams from Erie all the time Erie CP, Strong Vincent, etc. in out of conference games, along with playing Youngstown teams like Cardinal Mooney and Ursuline.

Big move for Pepi. I assume this means Champions League football, right?

He was good in that league and is only 20. Augsburg was not a good fit for a young striker, their whole philosophy is to play boring soccer to avoid relegation.
This is massive. When a club like PSV takes an interest in a USA #9, it makes it even more baffling to me that Burp left him off the WC roster and took Ferreira and Morris instead.

Weah to Juventus is massive too. Huge club, great league. But no UCL football this year.

AC Milan is the only club at this point linked with Pulisic. But there hasn’t been anything solid at this point. There doesn’t appear to be many options for him.

I’m starting to think the best thing for him at this point is to suck it up at Chelsea and go out of his way to put on a happy face and go out and win a job. He’s one of only a couple champions league winners left on the roster and one of the most tenured. With Havertz and Ziyech gone, and Mount on his way to Man United, it’s not out of the question that he can impress Pochettino and beat out the 3 wingers there who are the current overhyped flavors of the month.

He was pretty out of form at the time. Only problem is, plenty of guys score in that league but many can't translate it to other leagues. Ideally he does well enough at PSV to move on after a year or two

So I’ve been wondering about Tyler Adams. When I see English dudes like Declan Rice going for 100 million + in the transfer market, I wonder how much Tyler Adams would command if he were English. In any event, looks like he could be on the move. He has to leave Leeds. He’s a premier league player. Not an English championship level player. Can’t say the same for Aaronson.

Caicedo is Chelsea’s replacement for Kante if they are fortunate enough to get him. And Adams is Brighton’s replacement for Caicedo. That’s good company for Adams to be connected too.

fulham should take the 35million and run if offered. they're looking at Max Aarons from Norwich as a replacement. 23, bright future with loads of potential. plus he's a west london lad

BTW, in case you missed it CONCACAF has suspended Weston McKennie for three games and Sergino Dest for two games because of the red cards they got in the Nations League semi-final.

Their two Mexican counterparts got the same punishments. Which of course means that since McKennie and Dest also missed the championship game, the US players actually got harsher punishments than the Mexican players did.

Because CONCACAF.

However, they have also determined that the suspensions are effective for the Gold Cup. Even though neither McKennie nor Dest are even on the roster for the Gold Cup.

Because CONCACAF.

3 for McKennie is mind boggling. I still haven't seen an angle that warranted the red card.

Dest though, yeah 2 games is fair

Gonna be interesting to see where those two guys end up. McKennie had a bad spell at Leeds, but you’d think he has enough equity built in due to his Juvy performance. But…I can’t see him playing champions league football. And the same goes for Dest. He’s really good going forward but such a liability in the back. I don’t see a big club going for him, given how he didn’t work out at Barca, Milan and Ajax. I think for him, it has to be a team with a very specialized role, like someone who plays in a back 3 willing to take him on.

Football is crazy. It was said that there were lots of scouts at the US vs Mexico match. Edson Alvarez, who Pulisic made look like a 6 year old, just got a big move to Dortmund. And Pulisic still waits for a team that’s willing to pay a 20 mil transfer and his wages.

Weston and CP back to Germany. '

Dest played so well defensively and offensively against Mexico. That has to be mind blowing for his agent.

I find this interesting because in a recent interview, Christian was asked about the premier league, and then seemed to indicate that he prefers to stay in the Prem. I always thought a move to a place like West Ham would be good, but Palace could work too. @pitt90seven

Lyon is also showing interest in France.
