Marquette is a basketball school of some repute who has had a modicum of success. Va Tech is a hilljack town with absolutely ZERO basketball pedigree, history, very much like PSU/State College when it comes to basketball.

And they landed Buzz Williams who was a fairly well sought after coaching commodity.

Don't tell me Pitt couldn't land a top notch coach when Jamie leaves.

So who do you think Pitt could land?

But here's one huge difference....one school has a football team that draws 70,000 for every game. The other team, well, some of it's fans talk about building a right-sized stadium that holds 50,000.

As a result, which school do you think has more money to convince an established coach to give it a try?

Yeah I've said that in several other posts. Buzz is every bit as good of a coach as JD. Now if SMiley was doing the hiring I'd be worried. I think Barnes will make a very good hire that energizes the fan base if all this TCU talk is real.

Buzz was on rocky ground at Marquette. Marquette had been pushing him to raise academic standards (moreso about too many juco players) and with Buzz's salary (he was top 10 in the nation) they were questioning if they were getting their moneys worth. that's why Buzz ended up at V-Tech. He didn't have time to kick the tires elsewhere. It happened quickly so he could save face. If given more time he would have ended up somewhere else (also why he has one foot out the door at V-Tech right now, as that was always a temporary filler job).

I don't know what this has to do with Pitt though. Pitt is not V-Tech. Pitt is a pretty attractive job. Heck, Sean Miller is a definite possibility. So is Archie Miller. So is Kevin Willard. All of these guys were in the dance this year. So are about a dozen other good hires. My prediction is actually Archie Miller, which would be a home run hire in my opinion.

And if you get a good coach from a good program, it won't be anything like the Buzz Williams situation.
Why on earth would you put the name Kevin Willard and good coach together? The guy is a flash in the pan.
