I would’ve settled with Brookin staying eligible that season over Shorter.

Guys who could‘ve been on that 1987-88 Pitt team: Goodson, Brookin, Shorter, the underrated, Keith Gatling, and Junie Lewis.
Brookin staying eligible would've been nice , but a front line of Smith ,Lane and Shorter would've been unbeatable with Miller and Mathews outside .

Ps ..best Roundball ever was when Jim McMillan singlehandedly won for Pa . Without a doubt my favorite sporting event every yr . His first shot was rejected and then he became unstoppable . Shame the game lost it luster and moved on .

I had season tix to seton hall in HS and was at the Pitt game. The by behind me kept yelling Fat man Rod at the game.He will always be Fat Man Rod to me.

Tom McMillen not Jim

I'll see your Cummings, Blount, Gill and Taylor class and raise you:

Mobley, Faulkner, Griffin, McNeal and Dumancic class of 1989.
What class was Thomas Hamilton was supposed to be in the 7ft 4in center? And man we almost had Jamal Magloire. Think we had a decent chance at James Harden.

I saw Hamilton behind our bench and remember thinking who was this giant.

Sean Miller left and he was our point man on his recruitment. Screwed us over.

Pera was the connection to Harden. Dixon was going to hire him, but ASU beat us to the punch. Supposedly Harden would have followed him here.

How highly rated was Hamilton? Think he was from Chicago. Speaking of Chicago, I remember Marcus Liberty’s name as a potential transfer back then too. That would have been huge. Oh what might have been with one of those types of players added back then.

Hamilton wasn’t a super high recruit - around top 100.

He would be equivalent to a solid 4 star recruit. Pretty sure Ahmad Shareef was from the same HS or area as him.

He might stay because he has little choice. He is on probation for 1 year. That might require him to stay in Pittsburgh.
I heard the same thing. He has to stay in Pittsburgh for his probation. We'll see if that is true.

Pitt had Harden. Maggie’s passing put the Operations hire on the back burner, which was going to be James’ high school coach. ASU swooped in and hired the guy. Rough luck losing Danny Green in 2005 then Harden in 2007.

Amazing how Pera parlayed that into now being the head man at Rice (and was named that during the Harden Rockets era). Got it when Rhoads took VCU. I’ve heard he’s a real asshole and talked to him once on the phone about a job and it seemed like he was.

He was the 9th draft choice taken in 1974 , they had him listed 6’11 215lbs .

6’11” guys weren’t very common back then .
I thought we were talking about Thomas Hamilton, the guy Evans recruited out of Chicago. He ended up getting a cup of coffee in the NBA.

He played bigger !

Second to Billy Knight my favorite Pitt player I saw play .
It was a shame what happened to him for his senior year. He was just a shell of the player he had been previously.

He had an illness that zapped his strength and you're right , he was a shell of the great player he had been .

That's why I defend Hugely . None of us know what's really going on with him and no one who knows is talking . The young man wants nothing more than to excel at bb and he's struggling. I'm giving him the benefit of a doubt and for both him and Pitt bb I hope he becomes the player he's capable of being .

Tom McMillen had quite a life .#1 rated hs bb player in 1970 , starred at Maryland was on the 72 Olympic team that lost that rigged finish to the Russians. Became a Rhode scholar, then played 11 yrs in the NBA . Became a US congressman etc .
