VB: vs Miami, 11/17/24 Match Info

Nice match. Miami fought hard and they have some nice PINs but their back row D is just not elite. Another otherworldly performance by Olivia.

Agree - you summed it up well
I love looking at stats....here's a few for this match...

  • Miami holds their opponents to about 15 pts/set....Pitt teed off to the tune of 21 pts/set
  • Miami holds opponents to a .192 hitting %....Pitt hit .409%
  • as stated earlier in this thread....."another otherworldly performance by Olivia"
    • 20 kills...5 aces....hit .531%....26.5 points....over 40% of Pitt's total point production
    • she now holds the NCAA record for most aces in a single season
Olivia Babcock is becoming the Pitt volleyball version in this era to what Tony Dorsett was to Pitt football 50 years ago....a legend!

I had a lot more fun watching the Pitt v Miami VB game than I did watching the first half of the Steelers v Ravens game. I wish more Pitt fans knew just how talented and exciting these women are to watch play VB. We are lucky to have so many weapons at so many different positions, as well as a coaching staff who knows how to adjust for each opponent and get their team ready ...

To his credit, Coach Capel appears to be figuring that out on the hardwood, too

I don't understand the resistance some of these misguided people express to volleyball. It's an outstanding product. You can't beat it for sports entertainment. Fortunately more and more of us are getting drawn in. Watching this team has been as much fun as anything I've seen in any sport.

I think it is all about culture. Having a culture on the team where the players cheer for each other and feel like a family. Watch the video
of the post game news conference Pitt-Miami and see how these girls feel about each other.

RE: NCAA 1 - 4 Tournament Seeding
Question: If Pitt wins out...but loses to Louisville, do they still have a good shot at being a regional host?
Nebraska would pass them and possibly/probably Louisville, so that would leave Creighton, PSU, and Wisconsin as the competition for the 3rd and 4th sites.
I would hope that Pitt's total body of work would clinch a host site.
Thoughts?

Pitt is probably a shoe-in for hosting unless they drop Louisville and GaTech.

I ended up watching the AMCC championship. Haha. Personal interest. Penn State-Altoona headed to the D3 tournament again along with Juniata. Juniata's insane winning streak continues. Pretty remarkable that two schools, in an area that isn't known for being any sort of VB hot bed, have stayed on top of their leagues like this.

I just hope we dont get put on the same side of the draw as Louisville for the NCAA tournament. I want avoid them until the final if at all possible. What with the final 4 being in Louisville and all.

Assuming Pitt doesn’t lose any matches other than Louisville, we are at worst the #3 overall seed. Even with that loss it would be close between us and Louisville for the second overall seed. Depends how much they value RPI vs the results against equivalent opponent of Penn State. Would be really nice for us to sweep Louisville and bump them down and not worry about seeding
