Sat four rows from the court ,trust me there was no lack of effort from the panthers.
Ryan Luther played a strong game as did the supposed " mid major" Chris Jones
Miami had a distinct size advantage inside, that last second tip in was tough to take ,looked like Pitt had it
There was no quit in this team they battled back several times in the second half as Miami started to pull away and they almost pulled off a good road win
DT you must have been watching something else Artis was in constant motion it was hard getting open looks the defense was that good
Miami's defenders ran thur most picks
Miami had too many freebies inside, after an alley oop and an easy basket MYoung was pulled ,you could see the smoke coming out of JD's eyes
The arena was half empty but the crowd was into it reminded me of a modern Field House
Spending the winter down here so l haven't seen the Panthers in person this year , Pitts big men aren't big enough
Luthers really improved however I still wish he red shirted 10 more lbs of muscle he could be a lot better than anyone imagined. He'd had been a great 5 yr guy
Since he wasn't red shirted he's earned more pt
Nix was on the bench and he looks very fit
Does anyone have any inside scoop on how Nixs looks in practice or Milliagin(sp)
Miami's campus is one nice place outdoor pools ,spinning classes & restaurants ,girls in short shorts

Fair enough on Artis. Thanks.

It's just not height their all very lean , 6'6/7" with a big butt and shoulders really helps. Miami's center just keep pushing MYoung back and when he fought back the refs called fouls on him.

the lack of effort complaint is almost always a lazy comment from those on here. I don't see a lack of effort, I simply see a lack of ability on the defensive side of the ball. Just like offensive, there is a certain amount of talent that goes into being a good defender..not every D1 athlete can be a good defender just because he is D1.

I have thought for quite sometime our heights are inflated. Young 6'6", Artists 6'5",Robinson 6'1"for example of three any thoughts

Our players' heights are inflated like all teams' heights are inflated.

Boxing out for a rebound is not much related to talent - I'd say it is more related to effort and fundamentals. We know how much Dixon stresses rebounding, and boxing out is crucial. Yet time after time, Pitt's players fail to do it. It was just painfully obvious on that shot last night. The smallest guy on the floor got the tip that won the game.

I said this in another thread but we were +6 on the glass last night. Our guys got caught watching the game. It sucks, but we had plenty of good box outs last night too.

Pretty much this whole season has been a lack of effort. I don't know how anyone could see anything else. Last night though, that was certainly not the case. That team gave it their all, well except for that last tip in. But there is clearly a lack of effort with this bunch. Luther would not be playing so much if that wasn't the case. The difference in the amount of effort between Luther and a few of our starters is huge.

I really never see a lack of effort. Maybe when they are down 15 with 4 minutes left, yes, but I see no lack of effort...just lack of ability.

What it comes down to is I think rebounding is mostly effort. Focus goes hand in hand with effort. When they let easy rebounds go the other way, or take stupid shots, make dumb passes, I consider that effort. I don't mean they are just going through the motions on the court not caring what happen. I just think they have talent, they're just beating themselves too often.

At 5'8" 140lbs I found it quite difficult to rebound against 6'0 " 175 lbs guys. I think Pitts experiencing a similar experience. It's possible to be a great rebounder and undersized height wise but not in bulk or strength and that's what I think hurts Pitt the most off the boards. I'd have to do a game film study which I'm not going to do ,but a lot of the bad shots especially JRobs are hoisted up with an expiring shot clock. Pitt doesn't seem to set enough good picks to get their shooters open looks.

Agree with that. As for rebounding, just a small sample size, but look at Tuesday. The key play was us allowing a 5'10" kid a rebound. That is lack of effort and focus. That should never happen. But what I agreed with is Pitt does need to start setting picks. If you guards can't create their own shots, and you keep having them shoot, you gotta do something to help them out.

I don't think it's a lack of effort AT ALL. Poor guard play has hurt us tremendously against good teams. Our Panthers are pretty damn good too, except up top.

But lets break down the losses for all the doubters:

Purdue - we are down early, but come back to lead by 1 at home, then Ryan Cline comes in and scores all 12 of his points in the 2nd half shooting pretty much uncontested 3's. He averages 3.8pts/game this season. JRob put the ball in the hoop, but Purdue's guards are not very good. Still, good game by him - he produced.
L'Ville - Damion Lee, 18pts, 4 steals, made our guard look like scared little boy. JRob, 1 point.
NC State - Cat Barber almost threw up a triple double (31pts, 7 reb, 8 assists - he had only one 3pter folks.) JRob, 9 points.
Clemson - Guard tandem Avry Holmes and Jordan Roper finished with 13 points - EACH! JRob, 8points.
UVA - Brogdon and Perrentes 21 and 14 respectively. JRob, 0 points, 0-11 shooting!
Miami - Rodriguez, Reed and McClellan drop 17, 12 and 10 on us. JRob, 8 points.

You don't get points for assists and not turning the ball over, that orange round thing has to make its way through the hoop. But most importantly, his defense has flat out SUCKED!

Actually the team does get points for every single assist. One might think that the team scoring points would be more important than any individual scoring points, but I guess not for some folks.

As to your "more importantly", it's wrong enough to be ridiculous.

Do you watch the games or just look at box scores. Robinson's defense in the uva game was great. Robinson didn't begin guarding brogdan until he went 5-5 vs sterling smith. Those comparison you do now do them with the 5 vs 5 or 2-2. James Robinson has become the whipping boy.
