Villanova week thread

Yeah I'd probably prefer just getting the new wr some touches on screens and slants and leave conner and company to smash the ball and wear them down.

On D... sounds like the sacks won't be high so just need to be disruptive and bat the ball try to get some ints

My memory is going, but I don't remember Pitt getting a dominant win in an opener in a long time - even against teams we should have clobbered. Would be refreshing, but I'm not expecting it based on past performances.

I too remember Westbrook running crazy at Pitt Stadium...

Go Pitt.

Well, on paper I think we should win big... But we will see. The more I think about it the more I think it will be close at least early. Just too many questions at the beginning of the year, and I think we may try to get fancy and throw to some of the new receivers to get them confidence. Something that just hasnt worked for us in past years. It is the dilemma that if we smash mouth it and grind out 2 TD's early and get up 14-0... then you cant open up the passing game very long if the game gets out of hand. So, you are forced to try to pass early, and timing, rhythm, personal, routes, everything is off the first game (unless youre Jameis Winston, and that was a great game he had against us). So, then doing that, you give the other team some momentum, and get us back on our heels.

So... hope we come out extremely confident, know our routes, know our plays, no penalties, and have a convincing first quarter. If not, I hope we pound it and wear them down and take over the 4th.
All I know is one has to watch out when many Experienced Players come back and play again for another year.

Temple taught Penn State that lesson last year and first time in 75 Years.

KSU did the same to WVU too, not by much but 24-23 was enough!

Navy spanked Pitt and 11 other Teams too?

Take an Experienced Team with a good Head Coach lightly and one ends up licking their wounded Panthers....I do not care to relive 2008 Bowling Green, 2010 Utah, and especially 2012 YSU?

I am just happy to read Narduzzi is focused telling his players to just look at Nova trying to enjoy and avoiding Injuries.

For you Villanova fans, what do you guys think of your team this year

I follow Villanova very closely. The Cats have some nice pieces to play competitively in the FCS & should be a playoff qualifier.

They just don't have the quality & depth of athletes to hang with Pitt on most days.

The Offensive line has some questions at center & one of the guard spots. The tackles are good players and have ACC size. (6'8" 315 & 6'4" 335).

The offense is ok. The QB is a RS sophomore who was named the CAA offensive co-rookie of the year. He had some solid games, but was haunted by game changing turnovers.

The running backs are not ACC caliber & will be by committee. The receivers with the exception of an explosive slot receiver are a work in progress. You may see 2 true freshmen on the outside in the rotation.

I doubt Villanova will move the ball effectively if the Pitt defense is up to snuff & comes to play.

Defensively is where the team will hang it's hat in the CAA. NFL scouts are in everyday to see DE Tanoh Kpassagnon. 6'7" 285 who runs in the 4.7s he will mostly likely be a day 2 draft choice.

Employing a 3-3-5 scheme the other 2 DL spots are undersized for ACC teams. The nose tackles are 6'0" 275lbs. & 6'2" 300lbs. The other DE is a Temple transfer and is 6'2" 265lbs.

The LBs are on the smaller side, but All-CAA performer Austin Calitro is returning as the team leading tackler.

The secondary is solid on the corners & suspect at safety.

The kicking game cost Villanova a win over Syracuse in 2014 and needs to show improvement this season.

This is a 7-4, 8-3 team playing the likes of JMU, Delaware, Maine, etc.

Can they hang and make the game respectable? Absolutely, but I see Pitt with a physical defense & the ability to pound the rock taking its toll on the smaller, less talented Cats.

I'd say Pitt wins this game by 3 TDs. 35-13 sounds about right.
