Watching Narduzzi press Conference, Moss is #2 RB, Ollison drops to #4 RB on depth chart

-Shocker

Do you really think that one of Mitchell or Webb couldn't slide down to corner instead of having Ryan Lewis and Motley playing that side? I'd rather have them there over Lewis or Motley. Just my opinion.

-Mitchell was a full time starter at DB 2 years ago. So he could, but the staff isnt leaning that way. They have not even mentioned it.

I told everyone when Nardz offered this kid that he was really good. He is the epitome of a sleeper stud. I saw him play in highschool and couldn't believe how under recruited he was. Pitt got in on him early and the kid stayed loyal.
When JC gets drafted this year,Moss and Hall will be the best one,two punch in college ball in 2017.
Salem......do you think he can be as good as Tyler Boyd, i smell Clariton-Aliquippa-Erie Cathedral Prep Pedigree in Matthews, I am just glad he De-Committed from Pu and came to Pitt!

Can Matthews be another Boyd or Fitzgerald? Just a Hunch!

Ollison should transfer. For some reason, he's always gonna get the short end of the stick. He lost too many carries last year to James and Hall who he was clearly better than. The kid is a stud and would be a star at another school. Love Narduzzi, but I disagree with him on his usage of Ollison last year and what he has done with the kid this year. He's an NFL back.

Ollison is definitely a stud and should have been used more last year.

It's quite interesting to think that last year he very possibly may have been redshirted if not for Conner's injury (and then diagnosis) and Ibrahim's injury. Narduzzi let his OC make most of the decisions on offense. Chaney was responsible for miss using/ underusing Ollison last year. I think Narduzzi will make sure Oliison gets his fair share of opportunities this season, though it may mean less carries than he had last year now that Conner is back.

As a HC, it's important to always be challenging players and motivate them. I think Narduzzi is doing just that. If Moss is anywhere as good as people are hyping him up to be, we will be in great shape.

I remember back when I first looked at Conner's high school highlight reel shortly after he committed to Pitt (when he was being looked at more as a DE). The first thing I told my brother was, "Forget about defense, this Conner kid has the potential to be a really special running back for Pitt. I also remember a few years later watching Ollison's tape and thinking, "This kid looks a lot like Conner in many ways. He's not just big, he's nimble and he cuts well and has deceptive speed for his size. He could be special like Conner."

I don't see Ollison transferring but rather transforming into an even more physical beast of a back (similar to how Conner did).

-I just watched this video right now for the very first time. Watch the cut ability by Moss and the vision. In his sparq testing results last year he had a 4.2 shuttle at 6'0 210lb, which is ridiculous good when he posted it from the Nike Camp for a player his size with muscle. It is easy to see the Dion Lewis comparisons with this, he has the same cutter and slicing ability with change of direction. If this guy is anywhere near a 4.5 40 speed today, Look Out.

Hugh, Ollison took a RS his first year at Pitt. He is a RS SO.

Captain, the post you responded to is referring to Chawntez Moss and not Aaron Matthews. That said, I share your enthusiasm for Matthews upside at Pitt.

Steel, the Moss JR and SR year Hudl highlight reels are impressive.

First off, some of you guys are taking the pre-season depth chart way, way, way too seriously. Last year at this time, Ollison was the last RB on the depth chart. After Conner's injury, Ollison ended up the the leading rusher in game 1, and for the season overall.
Secondly, PN and his offensive coaches have seen these guys grow physically and emotionally over the past eight months, and they've seen them on the field, in practice, and in scrimmages, and have watched countless hours of film of all of it. We haven't.
The idea that what you think of Hall based on a few plays of his last November when he was thrown onto the field prematurely due to injuries to our top two RBs, trumps all of the coaches recent first hand knowledge and experience with these guys, is really funny. Nobody is getting screwed.

Posters are getting way to caught up in this thread. People are posting like they know exactly what is going to happen during the season. You don't.

One of these people is, and a few others are dim enough to take his constant misinformation as fact. I feel compelled to keep calling him out for his nonsense, but that's like a second job. I could use some help. You game?
I am always game.....I like Steel's enthusiam but holy cow he is looking into something that isnt there

Don't let the facts get in the way of a good rant. Ollison lost too many carries to James last year? Huh? Relax and enjoy the ride, should be a fun season regardless of who is running with the rock. Hail to Pitt!

I do love the enthusiasm but he does exaggerate pros and cons of the squad. Definitely ran with the RB depth chart a bit much here.

I think I am seeing Moss or Hall or Olllison. Which means they are all the same. How does this show Moss is second string? And it's just a probable depth chart.
I'm kind of wondering the same. In an interview, Ollison was the 3rd RB Narduzzi mentioned when speaking about Moss, Hall, and Ollison. Seems like some are reading too much into things.

-Well, apparently my ears served me correct. Moss, #2 on depth chart as of today.

  • Pitt’s running back situation is, in a good way for Pitt fans, insane. James Conner leads the way, but true freshman and early enrollee Chawntez Moss will directly back up Conner, with sophomore Darrin Hall behind Moss. Fourth on the depth chart is the returning ACC Offensive Rookie Of The Year Qadree Ollison, a redshirt sophomore. Not even listed because of a physical lack of room on the chart is Rachid Ibrahim, who will most certainly get reps but has what it takes to be a special teams hero this season on punt and kickoff coverage.

-Lastly, I dont really care as long as its Conner, Ollison, and Moss and we run at minimum 65% of the plays.

Well, either that or Ryan Bertonaschi doesn't understand how to read a depth chart any more than you do.

And for the record, it's the second one.

Thanks for the info Steel, I hadn't seen any other depth chart info other than the 3 playerst listed asince "or" behind Conner.

Ollison is going to play the hybrid position and be more of a HB than a TB this season so he can be on the field more, make no mistake he needs to work on his pass defense but it was only his freshman season and not many freshman backs are great pass blockers

What he posted came from someone reading that exact thing and not understanding that if you are looking at a two deep that has three guys listed as the backup that those three guys are all "OR"s.

Yep. DiPaola clarified that in a TRIB article: the OR's are listed in no particular order. We'll see on Sat.

You are better than this Steel. This article is from some writer on Scout that is giving his opinion. Nothing he said has any quotations and is not directly from Duzzi. Furthermore, there is not one thing including his press conference this week where he says Moss is second. Right from Duzzi's mouth he said he would put all the running backs behind Conner on the same line of the depth chart if he could. Furthermore, no way Duzzi lets on to the actual playing time and positional ranks in some positions on the depth chart. Not his style. He is coy which is why he had so many OR's.

And this is another thing that has to be considered: that Pitt will have more than one RB on the field at the same time. Very curious to see what Canada may be conjuring up. Although we may have to wait just a bit longer than this Saturday for that! ;)

If we run 65% of the time we will not have anymore than 60 offensive possessions tops. That means 20 passes attempts. This would be a mistake against Nova. We need at least 25 pass attempts for Peterman to build rythmn with his receivers and tight ends.

It really accomplishes nothing for us to run 45 times for 500 yards against Nova. We have an experienced OL and good running back stable with experience. I want to see Ford, Quad, Weah, and Lopes get some confidence.

Agreed. Keep it as vanilla as possible.

-We ran the ball 65.5% of the time in 2014 season. That team scored 35 rush TD's.

-In 2014, we still have 4 starters from the Oline on that team now back on the current team 2 years later. We have James Conner 2 years later. We have Hall 2 years later. We have Ollison 2 years later. And we have Moss.

-We would be boneheaded not to pound it that high. We have the same oline and same players plus Moss, just more experienced. If that team can put up 35TD's, this team should break it, unless all these players regressed.

LMAO. And you still haven't. What depth chart do you think the clueless Scout writer was looking at when he wrote that? Read the first few lines of the piece-the same 2 deep depth chart Dooz handed out just before his presser. The same one that Meat Curtain has cited as his proof that Ollison is #4-That and his completely false statement that Narduzzi said at this presser that Moss is ahead of Ollie.

What hybrid position? What's a HB? We have fullbacks and tailbacks. He's a tailback, like the other 3 guys on the depth chart at his position.

"You are better than this Steel."

No he isn't. This is his typical BS.

And this isn't the writer's opinion, it's his own misinterpretation of the 2 deep that Duzzi released yesterday. He says so in the first couple of lines. Apparently the same reading comprehension problem Curtain suffers from.
