Last night's game vs Louisville clearly
showed the difference between Pitt
and an elite program. We actually hung
with them for a little way into the
second half. They have an All American,
Dana Evans, and her all around game is
on a different level. Watching their
players execute was a pleasure. It was
the best WBB I've seen this year. Of
course I've only seen Pitt's opposition.

Green was on fire shooting, 7-12 Fg's,
and 5-8 on threes, 1-2 ft's for 20 pt.s.
She doesn't do that and we lose by 30+.
Other than that, we were up against
overwhelming talent. We hustled,
didn't give up, and somehow got 21
Off. rebounds. This is an incredible #,
but the sad part is we can't convert
the putbacks. Our bigs just are not
good. The final score would be much
closer if we could.

Harris was injured (knee?) hope it's
not serious. One player I liked was
Sadrine Clesca. IMO she's much better
on the point than Hayford. I usually
don't pick on players like this, but Emy
is not a pg (is a good athlete). She had
a team leading 5 TO's. I have no idea
why Coach is using her as a backup PG
when he has Everett and Clesca.

This was a loss that was expected. It's
a slow process, but they do work hard
and I feel coach has em pointed in the
right direction. They NEED a legit Big.

Agree with all that. Everett supposedly prefers to play the two. Sandrine should be a senior in HS. They are being careful with her on the academics - she hasn’t traveled to all away games.

Hayford sure was flying around - a couple times she found a path to the hoop but she was moving too fast to be able to put up a controlled lay-up...

Gabby Green is hard to figure. I was thinking she shouldn’t be starting and she has this amazing game...

Louisville was so good at the pull-up jumpers. Made them look easy.

Go Pitt.

To follow up on the point from the thread on the last game, Louisville had 14 offensive rebounds and turned them into 14 points. That's OK, certainly not great but not awful either. Pitt turned their 21 offensive rebounds into 8 second chance points. And that is awful. Worse than awful.

Having said that, we actually kept it closer for much of the game than I thought we would. And if you'd have told me beforehand that Harris was only going to play a couple minutes due to injury I would have thought it would have gotten much worse than it did.

They play hard. They just aren't good enough.

Yes, you followed up my post in
the last game about off. rebounds
and put backs. Your numbers for
sure highlight what I'm saying.
Also the # of rebounds they're
getting is hard to figure. 21 is an
absurdly high #. The Louisville
coach was really letting his players
hear about it. On the other hand,
8 second points (4 makes) is an
absurdly low # on 20 rebounds.

We're not tall, and they really
don't get up in the air. They're
fighting for position and
scrapping like hell. As I've said
before, they get one big who
can play, and can also convert
and this is a totally different team.

I've probably gone overboard
criticizing Hayford, but her floor
game is atrocious IMO, and really
hurts this team when she's at the
point. I get that they're trying to
make her a backup pg but her TO's
are bad every game, She basically
plays too fast, is often out of control,
and has no "feel" for the game. One
thing that makes me crazy is she
repeatedly drives the lane, and when
there's nothing there, she stops; picks
up her dribble, and looks around for
help. She usually does this right in the
middle of the lane.
She's not alone in this, but I can't
believe the coaches can't fix this in
practice.

As for Gabby, she's IMO, the best
defensive player on the team. She's
gone off from three land before.
Everett has taken over some of
her game, but I'd still start her
along with Harris and Everett in the
backcourt.

It may not have made a difference ,but we played most of this game without Harris.Any update on her? On the bench with ice on the knee and crying didn’t look good.

Supposedly they are in contact with 20-some post players - a few who are in the transfer portal...

I do think Cynthia is getting better but she clearly is limited offensively.

Go Pitt.

A transfer big who could instantly
play and produce would be great.
A freshman with height would be
good to develop.
Cynthia and Rita should be backups.
I agree "Cynthia is getting better."
She right now needs to be doing
putback drills repeatedly in practice.
Rita has hands like feet, ok maybe
not, but they're hands of stone.
She needs to be doing two ball drills
and other drills that get her catching
the ball in traffic. Also she is so slow
with her re action time.
However they both work hard, hustle,
and don't back down. those are good
traits, but they should be backups
not starters. I hope you're right about
transfers and recruits.

If you watched the Pitt - Syracuse game, a big like the Syracuse freshman Cardoso would fit so well on this team. She'd probably be averaging 20 and 10 on this Pitt team.

Yeah, I watched that game. She is
6' 7"....we could use someone like
that. I've also watched these other
ACC teams who all seem to have
players in the 6' 4" range who can
actually play. Our two fight like
hell on the boards, but they basically
can't play.
