We are up to

29 in the AP poll and 30 in the coaches poll . Top 25 after next week

That's about 100% consistent with our level of play from the PSU game to now (throwing out the Delaware aberration due to resting so many banged-up players).

I got blasted for saying we are not top 25. Beat Miami inch closer, but Miami isn’t the deal breaker to push into 25, beating UNC and VT are top 25 rankings for us.
You’re probably not wrong, but I think it’s just a little weird how an 8-2 P5 team (assuming we’d be ranked after beating the teams you mentioned) would just be cracking the Top 25. Hopefully it’s before then.

If we beat Miami handily, we are ranked next week. If we play our typical game and get a close one, we'll need some help. If Wiscy gets smashed, they should definitely ne below us.

They will be in the top 25 if they beat Miami, especially if UVA loses and we’re alone in first in the coastal. I think they are probably top 25 if they win regardless. They’ll jump a few vote getters.

Completely disagree if Michigan was “16” then Pitt who played a much better game (but lost by 7) at PSU should at least be in the Top 25 now.

Beat Miami and get in

Wasn’t Cuse ranked before getting pummeled by Maryland? Cuse?

Wait-please elaborate on your statement that Pitt “played a much better game” against PSU than Michigan. Last time I checked, Pitt scored 10 in that game. Had 24 rushing yards. Michigan has a dropped TD pass at the end that would have tied it at 28. Statistically Michigan was better. Had much more balance offensively and more total yards. PSU had 100 less yards against Michigan than it had against Pitt.

what are you talking about?

These days, it's very difficult to get IN, or drop OUT of the Top 25 if you're not included in the pre-season vote.

A team has to be near perfect for weeks on end to get added to the Top 25; and subsequently, they have to fall on their face more than once to drop out (provided they weren't in at 25).

It's a popularity contest, coupled with the fact that nobody likes to admit he's wrong.

Well regardless of preseason rankings if you go undefeated through 6 games you’ll be in even if you haven’t played anybody. See Minnesota, SMU and Appy State for example.

Hence, my comment about being near perfect for weeks....

A 5-2 team, who was not in to start with, will find it difficult to get in, regardless of how good they are.

Also, #19 Michigan losing to #8 Notre Dame could help us sneak in as well.

Unless there were a couple of high value wins in there, I agrees.

I don’t think Pitt has earned a spot in the 25 by body of work to date. The squeakers against mediocre teams, the inability to score and to put teams away in the second half, the loss to a UVA team that’s no longer in the top 25, etc. The one quality win is no longer a quality win.

We don't have a win over any team currently in the top 25 and there’s not a top 25 team left on the remaining schedule. I would think we’d have to win out to earn a spot in the top 25.

Its all subjective crap

ucf, Virginia could also easily be in the top 25. Big 13 teams get over rated they don’t play anyone just each other

It really isn’t. It’s based on your record and the quality of your wins and losses.

With a strong finish we'll find out firsthand next summer how this plays out for a Pitt team that returns some nice pieces. Should be ranked you'd think. Then we can all watch the pollsters' reactions to all of Pitt's games/outcomes.

I’m talking about the game where Pitt didn’t get down 21-0 almost immediately... you know the game where if not for the longest FG in PSU history we go in leading 10-7 at the half ... the one where we lost by the same number of points as Michigan did... that one.

Sorry but as a Michigan fan as well as a Pitt fan I remain completely unimpressed with Harbough ... yeah they almost tied it up whoop Dee doo... where’s their recruiting ranked again? Total unachievers year in year out.

I will say though ultimately I never believed that PSU would “blow out “ either Pitt or Michigan this year ... despite the hype or the pre game lines.

Like I said if Michigan is 16 Pitt should be ranked at this point even if we’re talking 25.

I guess blowing out Rutgers made up for going to OT vs Army ?? Or something something reasons.

Only thing I’m disagreeing with is the statement that Pitt played a much better game against PSU. That just isn’t true, unless having more yards, more points, rushing for 700% more yards, and holding the other team to less yards don’t count. The fact that Michigan got down big early is meaningless in that discussion. They came all the way back and dropped a ball that would have tied it at 28. Pitt didn’t score a point in the second half, and that has been an issue all year.

For the record I’ve Never liked Michigan having grown up in its shadow surrounded by Walmart Wolverines, and having a lot of Spartans in my family. That said I expected Harbaugh to hit a home run there.I agree with you about him. His team is soft as butter in his 5th year. A far cry from the physical, hard-assed Stanford teams he coached. In his 5th year I think it’s safe to say he’s been a disappointment, especially considering they backed up the Brinks truck to get him.

7 points is 7 points

UCF came all the way back and lost ... Duke came all the way back and lost....

I’ve seen Pitt lose games where they out gained their opponent as well.

At some point it’s very difficult to believe Michigan is 9-10 spots better than Pitt right now any way you slice it.

Exactly.

You can make the argument that Pitt isn't a top-25 team right now and I'm ok with that.

But neither are Iowa, Boise State, Iowa State, or Arizona State.

Arizona State is easily the worst 5-2 team in America. They had 15 net passing yards and 76 total yards against Utah. They had TWO TOTAL 3rd down conversions. And 4 takeaways that led to THREE points (2 takeaways were inside the Utah 20). They're awful, plain and simple.

Iowa's best win is against Iowa State whose best win is against 3-3 WVU.

Boise State has played basically two P5 games and is 1-1, beating 3-4 FSU.

So I'm cool with Pitt not being in the top 25 but let's just drop those 4 teams off entirely as well. Call it the top 21. If no one deserves to be ranked, just leave them off the list entirely.
