Welcome to the Portal: Aidan Igiehon

Wow, a lot of wishing for a center as good as Dante Taylor in this thread, saying he’d be a lot better than the ‘less than mediocre’ we’ve had to live with in recent years.

I guess I don’t get it thinking DT would be a good bit better than our recent mediocre. Weren’t DT’s career stats at Pitt almost a mirror image of Terrell Brown’s in MPG, PPG and RPG? And if you figure in Blocks, the edge definitely goes to TB?

Let me know when you have any responsibility for recruiting or administrating anything .

you always hire/recruit the most talented people you can - and work on replacing them if they leave .

you don’t hire someone who would just because they may not leave
Unless your name is Narduzzi

Why are you asking about stats? Don't you remember watching Dante Taylor play? If you do, I really don't see how you could possibly believe that Brown was as good as him, let alone better.

Here's a fun exercise: look at Brandin Knight's stats and compare them to Xavier Johnson's. They're remarkably similar, but nobody in their right mind is going to say that they're close to equal as players.

Yeah, you’re right, stats mean absolutely nothing.....even though all the experts on this board throw them out continuously to make their point.

I full well agree with you that stats don’t tell the whole story. But I’ll disagree with you big time on Dante Taylor. I don’t care how much potential he had or how much better he could have been with better health, in the end he never contributed much more than Terrell Brown. And in this case, the stats are definitely on my side.

The stats are definitely not on your side. Terrell Brown's career FG% is 45. Dante Taylor's career FG% was 58. Taylor outrebounded Brown every single year and was significantly better at offensive rebounding. Brown is obviously better in terms of blocks, but Taylor wasn't selling out his defense on a consistent basis by trying to swat everything. The biggest difference between the two is that, while both were brought in to be key players and failed to live up to those expectations, only Taylor managed to carve out a successful role as a supporting player. Terrell Brown sucked for four years and found himself utterly marginalized by his senior season. You are not being honest if you think the two players are comparable. Taylor was better, significantly so.

Taylor was a LEGIT P5 Center.....just not as good as we hoped he'd be. On a scale of 1-10, he was a solid 5. Good enough to win with. We haven't had anything more than a "3" since he left. AKC is probably a 3. Brown a 1, maybe a 2 due to shot blocking.

Talib Zanna

Yea but he played with Taylor for 3 of his 4 years so I didn't count him. But yes he was a good 5.
Romanticizing about how good DT was shows you how far the program has fallen !

Thinking that a 5 equal to DT would elevate the program is misguided . Gary McGhee yes DT no .

Maybe had he been 100% healthy he’d have come closer to his McDonalds AA hype , but sadly that didn’t happen .

Correct. The program has fallen very had. When you cant land a 5 as good as Taylor, that's what happens. Duquesne has had better 5's than us since Taylor/Adams/Zanna

He really wasn't. He was more of a stretch 4 playing out of position at the 5. He definitely preferred to play facing the basket.
