Well great coaching, bad corners

I agree about the middle of the field. Read my post above.

Henderson could be a bigger weapon exploiting the middle of the field against linebackers. Than on those jet sweeps if used on certain routes. Just like UNC did with Switzer against us
And, honestly, with as much as we motion, that could be a great RPO play with him motioning over and then quickly cutting back across on a slant. LB picks him up quickly you belly to Conner. If they suck up/freeze on the run action you hit Q and let him work the space in the middle of the field.

Best part? That is a single (maybe single pass/run and then added give/keep) read play for Peterman. He should be able to execute that.

You either get a soft middle for Conner or open space for Q. And if you have the TE inside Q slip out some to the flat, instead of run blocking, it keeps teams from being able to crash the CB in anticipation of the jet sweep.

I agree Jp. Hopefully, we start seeing it as the season goes on. Its a lot better than a flare to Conner out in the flat.

I was pissed at the call when it happened, but when watching a replay saw that if O'Neil hadn't missed his seal block, JC had an easy 1st down. The play call would have worked. The execution was poor. My biggest beef with the passing game is that we don't use the middle of the field. It's as if the space doesn't exist
If either he hadn't missed that block or the pass was somewhat more accurate. Either way, I don't like that call on a pivotal 3rd down. I'd like a play in which the pass travels necessary yardage+ through the air.
I don't like being in 3rd and 8 on a critical possession to begin with. That's a losing situation the vast majority of the time-unless you're playing against our secondary.

The best coaches do whatever they need to to avoid 3rd and long on a critical possession.

It is a pretty goofy thing to say. I am 100% sure the coaches didnt try for 2 plays to make 3rd and 8.

Coaches have about 8 seconds to call a play, you have a week to analyze each play. Am I saying each play is GREAT? No. I am not saying that at all. However, they certainly are doing a very good job. With the views expressed negatively on this board literally every single college team and coach should be vilified, because every team gets conservative with big leads late in the game because they dont want turnovers. Can you imagine if Peterman (who certainly isnt throwing very well) comes out and throws 3 times to our weak group of WR (who have deflected 2 passes themselves for INTs this year) and we went 3 and out with about 20 seconds used up? It would be absolutely dumb. We would go against what we do well, and open up an offense that doesnt have a passing game.

I'm sorry, I dont agree with the dissenting opinion that the coaching staff did a bad job calling plays down the stretch as a whole. Sure, some plays were bad like the 3rd and 5 pitch to Conner to a stacked side, but I think with our ground game you just tell the Oline to batter skulls and go get a first down and win the damn game.

When you run the ball twice inside the tackles into a what amounts to an 11 man front, chances are you're going to end up in an unmanageable 3rd and long, no matter how good your line is. When you don't have a QB or receiver who can make a play, the odds of converting that are mighty low.
