What happened to the DT Dribbles?

You don’t know Pitt bb history very well , Curtis Aiken was an all everything out of high school and was a great get for Pitt at the time and he was the start of the influx of great players to Pitt . Now without the intervention of the Golden Panthers none of these guys would’ve ever gone to Pitt . Pitt also never wins the national championship in 76 without the GP either . The point is you need to get the first guy in the door . That hasn’t happened yet for JC , he doesn’t have the benefit of outside assistance !

It just amazes me that posters on a Pitt bb board just underestimate how difficult it is to recruit great players to Pitt . The few D1 prospects in their backyard all go elsewhere and for the last 8 yrs they’ve been mediocre at best with the last 3 being horrific . There’s no active booster group to assist in acquiring players , they play by the rules , they actually make their student athletes go to class ( like they’re supposed to ) . Pitt bb is a hard sell , even when JDs team were highly rated (#1 ) and a top seed in the NCAAs they didn’t land elite level players .

There’s a reason JC got a seven yr deal , he’s here to rebuild Pitt bb and do so the right way by playing by the rules . As we’re seeing there’s no quick fixes when you play by the rules and your without a great local talent base . He will continue to get better players and will eventually turn Pitt into winner and a program where better players will sign with . Pitt isn’t Duke nor will they ever be , and if you don’t want to give JC some credit in Dukes improved recruiting during his stay there who cares . I doubt that Coach K would agree .
Curtis scored a lot.....in freaking Buffalo. (Sorry, Julius) People tried to compare him to Calvin. Not even close.
And as a guy who was in the "Rebounders" group in the early 70"s, I'll stack my knowledge against you all day long. We attracted great players to Pitt BECAUSE of boosters in the past.
So, has Duke recruiting fallen since Jeff departed? I expect Jeff to recruit in the top 50, consistently. We won a ton of games in the toughest league doing that. Of course, we don't know if he'll be as good as Dixon's best years, but maybe he'll be even better.

I'd be interested in DT's take on the freshmen. I honestly probably psyched up their athleticism up too much in my head and all look slower and/or more "below the rim" than I was hoping. I was hoping I guess for more like "raw athletic power with limited basketball skills that can grow" and...I am not seeing that.

Actually, to me these freshmen seem like fairly skilled basketball players with next years class being more athletic with room to grow. You could probably trade Coulibaly for Hugley in that assessment.

IMHO, Champagnie has the athleticism and what looks like good shooting form but needs to upgrade his long range shooting effectiveness which appears possible given his form is decent.

Coulibaly is the below the rim average athleticism guy expected who has skills that need polishing. he has potential but not off the charts long term potential.

Drumgoole should be a good tall, long-armed long range shooting 2 guard once he gets over freshman jitters. He is not, nor likely to be an athletic wing, IMHO.

Incoming forward Noah Collier will demonstrate the athleticism you seek, I believe. Hugley should be better and much stronger near the hoop than Coulibaly, IMO, but won't be a high flyer playing above the rim. Amadsun is a high flyer at center who needs to develop a game beyond dunks, rebounds and blocks, it would appear.

When I see Collier's game, I see a longer version of Champagnie. We've already seen a bunch of examples this year of Champagnie getting a pass from across the paint down along the baseline and him getting to the rim. Given Collier's additional length and bounce, I see a lot of that sort of play in his future from the small-ball 4 position.

Hoping it is a significantly longer version (e.g., actually 6-9 vs 6-7) and with a developing jump shot. ;):)

Who actually has a great local talent base anymore? Seems to me most of these kids go away the school these days.

I think Pitt is actually a pretty decent destination school, especially if you are looking for an urban school.

X and Trey are playing off instincts and they don’t trust the other players on the team. And they are right to not trust them except Murphy. That’s really the result of not having and structure to an offense. We have many players standing and not getting open in the places and areas they have the skills to be trusted to do something well. Nobody should be shooting any 3 point shot let alone from more than 15 feet out except Murphy, Trey, and TB.

And they don't even trust Murphy. X threw him the ball just one time in the offensive set in the entire second half. And that one, was just a simple toss as they were standing near each other at the top of the key, Murphy tossed it back.
