Sorry, my bad. I messed up the title. It's supposed to say What are Pitt's
Next Moves?

I'm guessing the departures are now finished for Pitt. More could possibly
occur, but I think we're finished, at least for now.

If Horton comes in and is as good or better than McGowens, then we can
at least be a little better than this past season. Murphy gave us little or
nothing after his injury, but he still needs to be replaced. The new recruit
gives us a backup for X, and hopefully a little more. As it stands now,
Drumgoole can be part of that backcourt even though I see him as a
wing. He's gotta get better, and I think he might.....I said MIGHT. After
all he was supposedly our top pick last year. With all that said, I feel
we need another guard. A transfer who could actually play would be ideal.
Capel got Murphy late, last year. I gotta believe he can do at least or
better this year. If he does, we'll be improved in the backcourt.

Up front, I'm reasonably sure we'll be better. Brown will more than likely
improve. Even if it's just a little, that's a positive. Hugley, I feel will be
a step up over what Hamilton gave us. I know, I know...he's just a
freshman, but I see a move up with him. Coulibaly will definitely be
better IMO. He doesn't have to start, but his learning curve is so steep,
it's for sure going to make us better inside. Very simply...an older and
more experienced Brown, plus a legitimate Big in Hugley, plus an
improved Coulibaly is better than what we had inside this past season.
Amadason?...who knows, but he can't hurt. He's another Big body.
I'm ok with where we are and what Capel is doing. IMO, he's not finished
putting next season's team together yet.

Drumgoole is a very interesting case , what did he show in preseason practice that made HCJC start him in the first game ? He looked totally out of place after his injury so maybe there’s more to the story than we’ve been told .

He needs to be a really good shooter. Otherwise, he won't be effective at this level.

Brown is what he is.....any improvement would be a huge bonus.
I’m glad he’s gonna be back. I don’t like his game, but he seems like a good teammate.

I for one will be standing and applauding loudly for him and his family on senior day next year. He’s taken a lot of abuse from people on this board, me included. He doesn’t deserve that.

It seems likely that Pitt will look for a grad transfer guard - there are only 3 scholarship guards on the roster as of today, and two of them have never played a game at the ACC level. As we saw this past season, 3 are not enough, given foul trouble and injuries.

Well, abuse is one thing, strong criticism is something else. I have no
problem with the strong criticism about his game. His lack of intensity,
strength, inconsistent play are all areas of weakness and as a college
player it's ok IMO to criticize these areas.
He does, as you posted....appear to be "a good teamate." He also has
stayed despite the difficulties with this program. I hope he has a good senior
year, and if he shows any improvement at all, that's all good with me.
Abuse directed at these young men is not warranted.

Heard on The Fan today that they are after a grad transfer guard from Dartmouth. Shoots lights out from three.

Concern might be whether he is fully recovered from a hip injury that prevented him from playing his senior season at Dartmouth.

Nate Johnson is going to Xavier and Barry cut his list, with no Pitt on it. Ian Dubose is still out there. Maybe a couple sit-one transfers, but Pitt has an immediate need at G.

Our difficulty is we are mainly wanting an XJ backup, not a starter. It is difficult to find one who is high quality. High quality Grad Transfers are looking to start, not back-up, and, ideally, we also want a high % 3-ball shooter. Dubose doesn't appear to fit that 3-ball % shooting need at 32.6 % last season (XJ shot 33.0%, Murphy 33.1%). Otherwise, he looks good if he would be willing to be happy with Murphy's minutes (~25 min/game) but not get starter's minutes (~30/game) unless earned.

6-4 Houston Baptist Guard Ian Dubose's 2019-2020 Stats--

Shooting Overall
175/ 399 = 43.95

Shooting 2s
130/261 = 49.8%

Shooting 3s
45/138 = 32.6%

Shooting FTs
155/ 200 = 77.5%

Assists/Game
111/29 = 3.8/game

Turnovers/Game
114/29 = 3.9/game

Assist/TO Ratio

0.97 [Compare to XJ (1.47), MSU's Cassius Winston (1.83), Retired elite NBA PG John Stockton had a career ratio of 3.72]

Rebounds/Game
48(O) + 163(D)
= 211/29 = 7.3/game
29 games

I followed Dubose all year as he was on my Fantasy CBB team. Pretty dynamic scorer at that level. I would assume he would be attractive to one of the big dogs that are an NCAA tourney shoe-in.

I actually want to see a grad transfer combo guard who can shoot
and occasionally play the point.
Odukale is 6'5" but he plays pg. The walk on, Ezeakudo
actually came on relieving X for a few games until he was injured.
IMO he's good for a few minutes. Like I said ...a combo guard who
can shoot.

DT I think Toney can if he improves his handle. The way the game is played these days I'm shocked that these kids can't dribble ad good don't they watch other good players that can. They're to caught up trying to make a highlight reel but can't dribble enough to get to the highlight reel half the time. LOL
Horton can also provide some minutes at the point. I'm curious if Toney gets some minutes at the two.

I think his handle is more than good enough for to fill in at point. He has better handle than Trey.
The only person on the team with better handle is X.

I was talking about Toney! DT was wondering if he can get some tme at the 2 spot so I edited my post to say Toney.

Personally I like toney as a small forward. He's tough inside and plays
bigger than his 6'6". His shot is improved, but I'd rather see him as a
SF with Horton and a combo guard playing as an off guard. If
Drumgoole gets his shot to come around, as we all were led to
believe when he was recruited, that would give us even more
outside shooting potential.

Please let’s not pigeon hole versatile players, especially with our current roster. Depth, matchups and experience play a huge factor game to game

He should go hard on ball handling in the offseason.

Think Toney getting any minutes at the 2 depends on:
  1. Who Pitt has on the floor with him (and until the roster is finalized that really is an unknown)
  2. If the opponent is playing man-to-man D (barring significant changes to his game don't see him as a 2 vs zone D).

I like Toney's game and wasn't suggesting "pigeonholing" him. I see
him as an excellent player on the wing and also inside. I hope we
improve our backcourt and feel that a grad transfer combo guard
would give us a decent backcourt with X, Horton, Odukale, and
maybe Drumgoole.
If Toney is a better option out there, then go with it. If he is, then
Capel is going to have to find a replacement for him on the
wing and inside. It's early, and it will be interesting how it all
plays out.

I know JC doesn't broadcast who he's after but I wish he did because it seems like everybody's in on all grad transfers but us. It's crazy 411 in the portal that's just insane that there's that many players want to leave their school wow
