Why was the "Zoo" booing Stallings when introduced?............

How so?

I'm no fan of Stallings. I hope to be a fan one day though. He deserves our support. He took a job and walked into a mess.

Pitt fans are the worst.

Correction..he walked into a not great situation. He had a team that should of made the tournament last year, and one that was going to need reloaded tho year.

He took that, had a terrible year last year, then gutted it.

HE created the mess.

Ok. He missed the tourney last year instead of squeaking in. I will give you that. But he inherited nothing beyond a team of seniors with no PG and no class balance behind them. That's a fact. Have some patience. Even Jamie was staring down the barrel of a complete rebuild this year. Booing Stallings now is ignorant.

I doubt Jamie would have ever taken it to this point.

Stallings inherited a roster that included the following players that should have been on this year's team:
  • Cameron Johnson
  • Damon Wilson
  • Justice Kithcart
  • Corey Manigault
  • Rozelle Nix
If you replaced those five for Boykins, Brown, Chukwuka, George, and Stewart, we would likely be 2-0.

Does Dixon deserve some blame? Absolutely, the roster was in bad shape. Stallings turned a bad roster into a horror show. Losing to Montana at home? 3100 at the home opener? It did not have to be this way. Stallings owns this.

With transition comes major change. Would jamie have us 0-2? Probably not. But there would be no post season either, as evidenced by his last three classes. Stallings tore it down. It's his group now. We need to see progression. If he keeps from losing this team and they improve, it's enough for me. For now.

Agreed - Dixon would have found a win to beat these teams. No doubt.

Cam Johnson would have just stolen minutes from younger players in an effort to improve his game for the scouts. would we be better with him? Yeah. But still a bottom 4th of the ACC.

Damon Wilson? One of Jamie's top recruits from his last three classes. Turned out the scouts were wrong. He's no loss...although probably better than Milligan.

Kithcart? Jamie's plan F who was also a malcontent would not have made this team better.

Manigault and Nix? Maybe. But just a bandaid. All signs pointed to Manigault being a flame out. Nix could help us with some size down low. Not sure I'm moving on was Stallings fault though.

Fk, who exactly would Cam be stealing minutes from that you project as a player that is going to benefit from that PT? Cam also has a year of eligibility left after this year. Meaning that even if this team was going to suck, Cam should have been the star of a team that contends for a NCAAT berth in 18-19.

Wilson and Kithcart were 4*s who were highly recruited. I would rather have kept developing them than scrape the bottom of the barrel to fill out the roster.

I guess I would say that I would take my chances with a guy like Dixon who has had a very high level of success in the very best conference, over a lottery ticket young coach, or a never has been like stallings.

If you are going to push out Dixon, you better be ready to hire a guy who has at least matched his success or has had large success at a lower level, like Archie. You can’t push him out for freaking stallings.

That team had no business making the tournament last year. That roster was toxic.

Johnson was either given bad advice from his father or he's a crybaby. He will not make the NBA no matter where he plays. Why? He's nothing but a streaky shooter. Can't defend, not that's needed in the NBA.He has no handle either. One trick pony.A good shooter and that's it.

They were booing him because he is not well liked in Pittsburgh. He has had a year and a half to show leadership in positive ways and has done the opposite. It has less to do with wins and losses than most coach-fan relationships at this point. Narcissistic personalities are easy to boo.

I have seen Stallings act for years here at Nashville. he is a jerk.

If you are a jerk and win- people tolerate and support you.

If you are a jerk and lose - people will boo you, want to run you out of town

If you are a nice person and lose - people will not respect you but they will not boo (Lovie Smith is a great example)

If you are a nice person and win- you become a legend/

Wasn’t Dixon a nice guy and didn’t he win?

I'd never recommend that The Zoo - who's job it is to support the team - should boo the coach.

But college students are known to be rebellious - that's what college students do. And maybe that will get the attention of the people who should be paying attention. What's next? Bags on their heads?

I remember the Zoo having a "Fire Harris" chant in 2004.

Ok, so let's say Cam 100% won't make the NBA. He transferred to get a graduate degree from a very good school AND gets to play on one of the best teams in the country instead of one of the worst. Still seems like an unbelievably easy choice to leave Pitt for UNC. Also, whose alumni do you think will take better care of him? UNC remembering him on top 10 teams or Pitt remembering him on 2 of the worst teams in program history?

Plus he got to sit in expensive Cavs seats for a playoff game !

I've been a basketball coach for 20 years. Your opinion, shared and expressed by others, is ill-informed.

No team can ever be successful without a PG. Last year, Pitt didn't have one...at all.
Artis played there, not because Stallings thought it was a great idea, but because there was NO PG ON THE TEAM. NONE. Because so many people were sick and tired of JRob not being a GREAT PG, they completely underestimated his incredible value to the team. With him gone, the team fell apart, just as it did in Dixon's last year when JRob came out of the game.

Last year's team wouldn't have made the tournament with John Wooden as HC.

Regarding the gutting of the team at the end of last year, there was nothing of value to gut, except for Cam. Dixon never recruited well at Pitt, despite his W/L record, not counting homeboy Blair. But he couldn't even get reasonable talent that he could develop his last few years. His last three recruiting classes were total garbage. Most of the guys in those classes weren't even MAC-level players. Dixon bailed on his own mess.

If this sounds like I'm pro-Stallings and anti-Dixon, I'm not. Dixon was the best coach Pitt ever had. But his successful run was over...totally. And I was not supportive of the Stallings' hiring. But blaming him for not succeeding last year, or for running off what was left, is total BS. This is an absolutely necessary complete rebuilt. How it turns out, no one knows, but Stallings had no other option.
