Wolf smacked down again - Bring on the fans to high school sports contests !!!

Having the band and cheerleaders and student body at a high school game is far more important than having mom and dad there.

There are usually only one or two band competitions a year. Getting to go to games is part of the band's performances and matter just as much as what the players are doing on the field.

High school games aren't about parents. They are about the high school students participating. That includes the band and cheerleaders.
ah, the king of what things are about...hahaha. I got it band parent. sorry to hear that. funny, I thought high school football games were about interest in high school football games...plenty of room for the band and parent's of players...no band parents though.

I don't care about band parents either. How on earth did you come to that conclusion? I care about the high school students. That's it.

Nope. Football players are there competing. Mom and Dad have a right to be there. Cheerleaders and Band are there for support. They have their own competitions and even other events they can potentially be at (like basketball games).

No one has the right to be there whether the football players are competing or not.

So... I've already stated that band competitions are far more rare than football games. Why should high school students be punished and prevented from participating in their activity so that spectators can attend a game? Your claim that it is a "competition" doesn't really justify preventing STUDENTS from being able to fully participate in their activity.

So stupid. Its a pandemic. You don't need 5000 people cramming into a low-level HS football game. Priorities. 250 is enough. The parents can go and that's enough.

Its interesting that Pitt and Temple weren't added to this bill. Surely, if PSU was playing, they would want at least half capacity up there.
It should be a uniform number like 20%. 1,000 people spread out in a 5,000 seat outdoor stadium shouldn't be a problem. The schools can mandate social distancing and masks.

Every HS football player I've talked to is thrilled to be playing, but pretty disappointed there won't be anyone in the crowd this Friday.

Barely any bands compete and only a limited number of cheer squads compete. Heck, a band competition can't even be enjoyed by anyone because two or three bands and you're at a limit. Non-competing bands go to festivals, but those are basically just fundraisers for the host band so they won't be happening. However, I'll give you if you want to have the band perform for parents when the football team is away, there's that as an option. Not ideal, but it's a way to get parents in the stands for both types of events.

At the very least you give 2 tickets to every student participating - players, cheer squads, band members, etc. Just like many schools do for Commencement.

It is completely asinine that parents can not attend. Appears the Chiefs had no issue whatsoever keeping their 16K fans socially distanced last night. This is not brain surgery for goodness sakes.

You don't need parents. Band members and cheerleaders are high school students. They should certainly be the first "fans" admitted to a high school sporting event. Remaining tickets should first be made available to the student bodies of both schools. High school sports are not played for parents or any other adult.
But there’s a point you’re missing. I felt the same way as you. I have a direct involvement in WPIAL athletics and I’ve been living this Covid/scholastic sport Issue intimately since June. What I failed to realize is how important it is for the kids to have their parents there. While some kids could care less, I was shocked to see first hand how badly most players want their parents there. It makes sense too. Players appreciate the sacrifices their parents have made for them. In many sports, the players and parents have traveled the country together for their sport.

and as far as the band and the cheerleaders, they have a right to be there too. Telling them they can’t attend and play their instrument is no different than taking a sport away from an athlete. I suggested that the band and cheerleaders should do their thing outside the stadium. Welcome the teams upon arrival. But my idea was met with resistance. They’re coming into the stadium to play and cheer and it’s a closed case.

Have you been to a high school stadium lately? They are surrounded by fences and in the example of NA, the gates are locked. There will be no way to just "walk in and watch".
He doesn’t understand.

Do parents sit in school with their kids? Do they ride the bus with their kids? Are they always home when the kid gets home from school or practice?
You’re opinion isn’t unique. Others may agree with you. But it’s not correct.

It's a joke. Head over to Costco on the weekend, or Footlocker before school started, where people are piled on top of each other.... inside. The kids are already in school together. No reason you can't have the teams, band, cheerleaders, and some fans in attendance.

You speak the truth about Costco.

Using this logic, they shouldn't allow any parking outside. Because you know, people are all around each other. 😱

If schools aren’t selling tickets -
How will they stop people from walking in and watching ?
Because they lock every gate except one and staff that gate. Parents are being given a pass for the season. No pass, no admission.
Are you suggesting other means or acts of defiance?

The purpose of the band is not necessarily to compete. Not every high school band participates in band competitions. And even if they do, there is only one or two opportunities to do that a year. Their active engagement in their school activity is more important than spectators for a high school game. Their ability to participate in their activity is not less important than football players.
He doesn’t get it. Shocking!!

Game officials have been instructed to not start or to continue the game.
I had a game the other day and asked the official about that. He said they were not instructed to do anything and that it’s the responsibility of the AD.
Now, it wouldn’t shock me if he was mistaken. Wpial/PIAA refs are incredibly incompetent in most cases.

No, that could have just been the policy of the local league.

Parents pushed for football to be played so they should be let in. It's only the 1st week and we'll see how it plays out. Some of you on here should be let in just for the sake of bellyaching so much.

This whole thing is stupid. Being outside is fine as long as you are not crowding all over each other. The NFL and College game yesterday had fans and social distancing seemed fine. Most of the cases now are happening at colleges (where kids are throwing parties and not social distancing) and congregate living settings. Give people the right to attend games in limited capacity. Wolfe sucks. Hope he gets voted out in 2 years.

He's a lame duck.
This is his 2nd term he is done in 2022 lol smh

Agree but it is not unreasonable for both to be there. I mean we can have 5k people protesting in the streets but can't have 500 at a hs FB field.

He absolutely will veto it and it will be overridden. That gives wolf cover. He could let it sit on his desk for ten days but I think he already vetoed it. It is my understanding this bill gives the individual school districts or conferences the right to decide if fans will be permitted and how many. I expect most will allow fans but with a reasonable limit of say 25% capacity. This would be fair and still safe.
Agree no reason they can't do that safely

no.
no.
no.

my turn, what the hell are you getting at?
Lots of stupid posts

Hard to believe these are Pitt grads

It's a pandemic

yeah it really is

a lot of these kids will get sick unnecessarily and the long term effects remain unknown

The sports product in this form is a joke anyway

dummies do not get it

Or Hersheypark-that was a free for all as summer went on. At first it was pretty empty, but the last time I went 2 weeks ago, it was packed! And there aren't any sections or natural ways to navigate patrons. They all walk in the front gate and go wherever they want. I would think that 10-20% of the stadiums' capacities would be much easier to organize social distancing. There just doesn't seem to be any consistency with these directives.
