Women's Basketball player dismissed

That team keeps getting worse. I thought they were bad last year. This year they may not win an ACC game. Maybe Tony Soprano isnt the answer at coach. Although I dont know if anyone can win here.

You absolutely can win here, but we haven't seen anything in his first two years so far to think that Verdi can win here.

I dont know about absolutely. We have had 2 maybe 3 good seasons out of the past 30. So its almost very tough job .

I'm not saying you can win at a national championship level or anything like that (unless you somehow find the 2024 version of a young Geno Auriema). But you can win enough to be a mid-pack or a little better ACC team, and with how good the ACC is that gets you to top 25 good.

Of course the fact that the ACC is that good just makes it that much harder to get up off the mat.

I would be happy with mid table that's for sure.

I wonder if in volleyball a dozen years ago people were saying well we can’t become a national power but maybe we can be mid-table in a mediocre conference? Or in soccer?

Coaching counts. Coaches who can recruit count even more. Verdi has shown me nothing on either level in his time here. We need to admit the mistake and move on.

Hopefully, Heather didnt give him a big contract with a huge buyout. I agree. Keep trying until you get something that works.

Yup, that pefectly explains it. This team seems to be snake bit from the get - go. Verdi
seemingly had a good recruiting year bringing some big transfers that would be a major
upgrade. Also a pg, a few players who would add depth, and a better than average off guard
(Jenkins) probably our best player, plus several returning experienced guards. Unfortunately
some decided not to come, injuries, and Jenkins' loss changed what coulda been. Opening
the season with Rust on the inside tells you all you need to know.

Pitt can definitely do much better. I realize volleyball is not a great example. That program
was not down like bball now is, but they weren't among the elite in that sport. Coaching
of course matters. Coach Fischer draws All American H.S. players from California to come
here. I realize we're now elite in that sport and it's easier to recruit now, but it wasn't
always like that. This guy is getting it done. Question....what the hell is Babcock's vertical?
This girl can sky! All American, Player of the Year, etc. etc.

You are now in trouble with the sexist police on this board,
whomever that may be. LOL
Howevwer, after seeing the above pic, yes...of course she is.
im so old i remember that calling a girl "hot" was a compliment. different times i guess.

I wonder why Bella was dismissed. The team has already lost 2 of their better players due to injury.

And why didn’t Faye play in any of the Virgin Island games? Some transparency would be nice.

She played in the first one (not very well, 6 points on 2-9 from the field and 2-7 from the line) and then didn't play in the second and third.

I don't know if this is related or not, but last night she was having all kinds of problems with cramps. They had to take her out several times and have the trainers work on her because she basically couldn't walk.

As to Perkins, it has always seemed to me that something odd was going on there. She was certainly inconsistent (as if any players on this team are consistent), but there were times when she would be playing well in the first half and then not get off the bench in the second. Or have a good game, and then hardly play in the next game. She's actually someone who can make shots (38.2% on threes this year) and can create a shot for herself, which most of the team simply cannot do.

Compare her to Mikayla Johnson. Perkins shot 38.2% on threes and 38.9% on twos. She doesn't get to the line, only 3-4 on the year. Johnson has shot 18.4% on threes, 27.8% on twos and 47.4% on ones. And yet Johnson is the one who averages 24.8 minutes per game while Perkins was only playing 17.7.

Perkins has easily been one of the best girls on each of the last 2 teams. My guess is that she is probably a coaches nightmare with a bad attitude. Anything other than that just doesn’t seem to fit because I think given 30 minutes a game, she could average 12-15 ppg.

I agree. It (playing time) had to be something behind the scenes rather than on the court.
