for any of you who care. Pitt leads at the half 30-18. Even though Pitt has a nice lead this game underscores the team's inconsistencies in a big way. Fred Potvin gets her first start of the season and hits three threes in the first four minutes or so of the game. At the end of the first quarter Pitt was ahead 25-12. And then they went over six minutes in the second quarter without scoring a point. luckily for Pitt, while they were scoring 5 points in the second quarter Virginia was only scoring 6. What an ugly quarter pf basketball.

At the half Potvin had 15 (on 5-8 from three), Carey had 8, Wise had 4 and Walsh hit a 3. And no one else on the team had scored. Pitt had 15 turnovers in the first half, and yet was ahead by 12. Which tells you how bad Virginia was playing.

Yes, it is. This team turns the ball over waaaaaaaaay too much, and many of them are just silly unforced turnovers. 25 turnovers for the game, so I guess that when you do that and can still pull out a win you ought to be happy.

Those two foul calls on Pitt at the end there that made it close were just awful calls. The charge on Carey when the Virginia player jumped right into her and then dropped over as if she was shot was a horrible call. And then on the ensuing possession when the Virgina player literally jumps right in front of Aysia Bugg to set a screen and somehow Bugg gets called for the foul when she runs into the player was even worse. You could use the video of that play to show someone exactly what a moving screen is. The Virginia player literally jumped right in front of Bugg as she was running past. I figured after those two calls, especially with those being the 5th foul on both of them, that Virginia was going to pull it out. Thankfully that was not the case.

--Only got to see the 4th quarter. Agree with you on those foul calls and on the maddening, careless turnovers.

--This team can play like a very good team for five minutes and then turn around and play like a very bad team for the next 10 minutes. I guess that's what you get with such a young team.

--Nice to see Fred Potvin have a nice game. Hope she continues to be more involved -- would like to see her work on faking the 3-pointer and driving to the hoop.

--The decision-making on this team is so shaky - like Diop driving to the hoop near the end of the game. Why didn't she just dribble out into space and make them foul her... Instead she gets called for the charge.

--Looks like those new PGs for next season will be welcome as Bugg continues to struggle with turnovers and with her shooting.

--This win has to feel good after losing 7 in a row...

--The women are now 9 and 11. They will have to mature quickly to win any more than 2 or 3 of the 9 remaining games.

Go Pitt.

The two pointer she made came when she caught a pass in the corner and the defender jumped out at her and she dribbled right past the defender for an uncontested layup. She just doesn't seem to have enough confidence in her handle to do that on a regular basis.

Joe - that's good to hear. I was hoping that Fred was working all summer on that move.

I didn't see that part of the game. I agree with you that it's a confidence thing. That's why I'd like to see Fred try a bunch of them -- regardless of the results -- to get more of a comfort level.

Thanks for the updates today.

Go Pitt.
