wtf is wrong with Miami?

The story of Miami's fall is real simple. They brought in a Chancellor who doesn't understand big-time football. She changes the culture of the university, and they haven't hired a good coach sense.

Miami's problems are coaching related, their coaching problems are administration related. They will just screw up the next hire, they haven't a clue down there...

Also, Rich Rod, who I think is a major league dick, would quickly change the culture there. He would make them much tougher – like what they used to be.

Ask a Michigan fan if Rich Rod makes a program tougher. Softest they have been in my lifetime, before they were taken to an even lower level by Hoke. First thing to go when RR came to town was stout defense and a tough O-line. Enter Harbaugh, Michigan has the #2 total defense in the country coming into this weekend. This with a more inexperienced group of players. Coaching is everything.

RR is not a name that comes to mind when I think of "toughness" in a program--even among the spread guys.
Good fit for Miami too!

Pitt has been there and done that but Nordenberg rebuilt Football into winning, but never could make them a Top 25 Program over 19 years under Pederson!

Kiffin went 7-6 at UT.
He went 28-15 (17-12 in conference) at another power program in USC.

Meaning despite being given the reins to 2 power programs, he won only 62.5% of his games.

He's not a good coach...it's not debatable.
He could not make UTenn or USC better and Bama is struggling, Kiffin is best at being an Assistant and maybe a level down.

I just dont understand it. Al Golden's former team, Temple is significantly better than Miami. I mean how the eff is Temple better than Miami? What kind of bizarro world ate we living in where Baylor and TCU are domonatinh college football and Miami sucks?

Miami needs to go big with their next coach. Really big. Art Briles, Rich Rodriguez, Bob Stoops, etc

Some Coaches are good at re-bulding a Program back to winning but not so good at maintaining a Top 25 Program!

Some Athletic Directors too! It is far easier to turn a losing program into a 7 to 9 game winner, than maintaining a Top CFB Program at 10+ to 11+ Winner!

As posted above, the Chancellor has to have such Visions, Plans, and Good Judgment in choosing an Athletic Director and Coach that follow!

Miami has had a problem since Donna Shalala arrived and first moved Miami to the ACC, dumped Coker, and accepted money from Booster now in Prison, and now has a Stroke.

Golden is good as gone if a New Chancellor comes on board. Golden rebuilt Temple but struggles at Miami!

I think Virginia may consider him, Vanderbilt too?

Interesting, I had not heard she was ill.

Oh, I disagree with you there. When he coached West Virginia they were very physical running offense. Holgorsen's teams are much softer, IMHO.

The whole Michigan thing never made any sense to me on any level. It is not like they were losing with Lloyd Carr. They we're still winning, still recruiting at a high-level, and they had a clear brand and identity.

...and then they threw it away to chase a fad.

Dumb.

I knew that was a dumb decision the day they did it. Also, Rodriguez fit into Ann Arbor culturally about as well as Graham fit into Pitt culturally.

Doesn't anyone vet these guys?

For all the same reasons that I knew Rodriguez would not work, I am very confident that Harbaugh will work at Michigan. His style of play in the types of kids you should recruit work perfectly in AA.

Lloyd Carr's problem is that post 2000, he only had one season in which Michigan lost less than 3 games. 3+ loss seasons with a loss to tOSU is never going to play well there. They were winning, but not at a high level.
