Aliquippa Youth Football booted

There is a technically 3A team (plays up in 4A) in district 1 that plays against all 6A teams. They just won the league championship. The problem they faced was none of the 5A teams in the area would step up to play 6A teams. The conference (Chesmont) was going to fold so their AD stepped up to save the league by agreeing to play against all 6A teams. Very cool story.

Anymore HS commits or...

I don’t know if I’d phrase it as being that dire. We clearly wanted two high school kids, and if they got two and Meleek wanted to come, they’d gladly take three. We got a kid that they love in Witherspoon, and it was clear that the class that they wanted and were expecting was Witherspoon and Dixon. They ended up going 1/2, and while it’s always a bummer to not get a guy that you thought you’d get and spent a bunch of energy recruiting, it’s not like they struck out - they got one instead of two.

If they don’t see someone over the winter who they can get as a late riser, I think you’ll probably see them chase after a multi-year transfer like Leggett was - and that might be more impactful on the court for the next few years than a high school kid might be.
We may well do very well by dipping into the portal again. The thing is, we probably will need 3 guards. Unlike Vader, I expect to lose both Lowe and Delalic. That leaves us with Cummings, Barnes and Witherspoon (a true freshman) at the 1/2/3 heading into next year. We would need to hit on at least 2 good transfer guards to keep our momentum going. Can't expect Witherspoon to just be another Carrington or JLowe in his first year. And we have no idea what Barnes is right now. So, if nothing else, it's concerning at the moment where we are. I just think it adds to urgency of making the Tourney this season. We have a team very capable of doing so and making a run, but if we don't, it means JC has only gotten us there once still. And a team relying on an entirely new mix in the backcourt the following year is unlikely to make the Big Dance.
