Steeler defense

watching a qb actually play the QB position well is something we havent seen in awhile. it's a nice change of scenery for sure.. WIlson's stats over the last 2 games:

111 QB rating,
542 passing yards,
3 TD passes,
0 interceptions..
And even on that turnover that’s one of those plays where you just tip your hat to the other guy. Russ didn’t do anything wrong, that dude just made a really nice play punching the rock.

Holstein vs SMU

The analytics people think SMU is really really good. They looked horrendous early in the season, like worst in the ACC bad but their transfers have seemed to have hit their stride. Narduzzi said their entire starting defense are portal guys.

That was also with their other QB, Preston Stone, and then Kevin Jennings getting acclimated to playing more. Also, let's be honest - it was really only one game. They struggled with a bad Nevada team and then lost by 3 to a BYU team that we now know to be pretty good.

I will say this, though: these run-first QBs don't seem to give Narduzzi defenses much trouble. I guess we'll see how on he is Saturday night.

Holstein vs SMU

Line is the same as it was prior to Pitt destroying Syracuse and SMU surviving Duke.

The analytics people think SMU is really really good, like Top 10ish good. They were 11 point favorites on the road at 6-1 Duke and won the game despite committing 6 turnovers. They looked horrendous early in the season, like worst in the ACC bad but their transfers have seemed to have hit their stride. Narduzzi said their entire starting defense are portal guys.

OT - More Steelers

My god is the Steelers O-Line bad. I can't imagine what QB could be effective behind that sieve. The absolute worst is Broderick Jones. He gets beat on almost every pass play. Hard to understand how that guy was a first round pick. If he were a 5th rounder he'd be cut by now.

Cruzer
I’ve been waiting for someone to start a “Ke’Bryan Hayes is a Bust” thread, but substitute in Broderick’s name instead.

Yeah, I know it’s early for that but it sure has been a rough road so far.

Pitt’s new on campus football stadium

Some posters arguing for an OCS still haven't joined the rest of us in the new NIL world.

A sold out venue with great atmosphere is nice, but nowhere near as critical as it was 5 years ago

Coach Franklin:

" son, look at this place, 105K whiteout. Cant you just feel it? Why would you want to play at a half empty rent a stadium "?

4 star DE with lots of offers:

" because Pitt has an offer for me that is 100K more than you and your sold out farm show"......

Steeler defense

I agree with most of what you’re saying here. Just one small nitpick, Jefferson didn’t necessarily run the wrong route, he just wasn’t smart enough to break it off and settle into the open space the defense gave him. Sure looked like that’s what Russell was expecting.
Yep-
Folks pretend routes are set in stone -
Both the WR and QB are reading the coverage and optioning routes .

It’s also why when Pickens is manned up without a safety drifting - his routes are mostly go routes -
Because that’s the chance for him to win .

OT - More Steelers

That was wild. Baffles me how he finds new ways to underwhelm every week.

The O-line had some very notable whiffs last night but it was the Giants. Also, I know it isn't cool to say out loud but the Steelers enjoyed some pretty sketchy calls/non-calls from the officials. Take it and smile.

Schedule gets harder, now. Will be interesting to see what happens the rest of the way out.
How was getting pushed out after the catch underwhelming ?
You folks have a hard on for Pickens
