Holstein vs SMU

Yarnell has been taking first team reps in practice ... leads to speculation which leads to the line change. The oddsmakers have no idea as to whether or not he will play as they just deal in perceptions so that does not make me think anything....More likely he has to pass some type of concussion protocol and Yarnell is rightfully getting "just in case" prepared which makes sense. btw, its Tuesday.
Line is the same as it was prior to Pitt destroying Syracuse and SMU surviving Duke.

Arthur Smith was calling a different game with Fields at QB, and rightfully so. Look no further than the play action game with Wilson compared to fields.

Fields strength is running, his weakness staying in pocket and making throws.
Yeah of course he was calling a different game with Fields at QB. That doesn’t change the fact that his offense sucked then. In other words, he wasn’t any miracle worker with his offense.

It’s looking good now so, like I said, I’ll give Arthur a thumbs up now but while doing so, know that a good bit of that is due to Russell.

I guess it’s a team effort, success depends on both the coaching/scheme and the players talent and execution.

My

My son and I debated Russ in the red zone before the game. I said Russ is good in the red zone. My son argued he isn’t and that’s why people were saying Fields should be the red zone QB.

Russ had 20 red zone TDs last year. He’s good at it.

And last night 1) Jefferson ran the wrong route, 2) Pickens couldn’t get his foot down, and 3) Broderick wiped out a 3rd.

I’m not worried about the red zone at all. Actually just the opposite.
Jefferson didn’t read the defense right , more specifically . Russ did.
In fairness - Pickens got knocked out the back by the safety . Was a good defensive play to push him out before he could bring his other foot down -
But - I still the rule is dumb if you are able to double tap a foot .

The idea of Fields in the red zone sounds cool. He has a cannon to fit the ball into tight spaces, and he can run. However, when you start budgeting for about 1 in 10 snaps being fumbled, etc., the idea becomes a little less appealing.

Holstein vs SMU

Yeah, that looks epically bad if Holstein is out this week. Peak has said he thinks he will play, though.

Like I said at the time, I didn't mind him being in the game to hand off and pass. But designed running plays and run-pass options should have been off the table at that point.

Its not just Narduzzi, other coaches are the same. They value the "work" that the QB needs so they keep them in blowouts until the final possession or 2. Like those Week 1 games vs FCS teams, the QB should play the 1st Half, that's it. I understand there is a value in the QB getting in more work but the cost of significant injury when the game had been decided is too high.

For me, as soon as the game has been decided, I am pulling every player whose loss would seriously affect the team.

teams win in over time all the time. or you have a chance to win it in regulation by going for two when/if you score the 2nd touchdown..

like i said before, with a 31% success rate, i loved seeing the giants go for it. made the 4th quarter much more relaxing to watch since i know they put themselves in a position where a win was impossible.
But you understand -
Using your way - they would only tie at best to force overtime -
Which was the same situation they would still be in going for 2 again .

In other words - require scoring 2 points in either event .
Although if they succeed - they win win an XP on another TD .

They have zero chance of winning in regulation kicking XP when down 14 in the 4th .
It’s just math .

Arthur Smith’ offense didn’t look too good while Justin was QB, any success was predominantly Fields’ running.

But the offense is night and day now with Wilson. It’s only 2 games but I’ll now give Arthur’s offense a thumbs up but with Russell contributing a good bit to that.

Heck, even Van Jefferson is making a presence now. Under Justin, he had to be the biggest MIA WR2 in the league by a wide margin.

we are perfecting the play action passes from under the center. love it. the play action game helping the run game and vice versa..

time to admit, arthur smith was a good hire (So far anyways).

VB: A Good Read...

Having the same issues as chrisran24 -- but yes, thank you for pointing that error out, latz66. I've gone in and updated the piece. I was throwing too much in there at once, when all I was trying to get across was that Nisa was spelling Rachel *at setter,* and the 6-2 gives you three attackers in the front row.

Appreciate folks reading the piece. I think it all comes back to Coach Fisher trying to find the best situations to use Blaire without disrupting what has been the best attack in the country. He's even gone as far as subbing her in for VVG in the front on points when Pitt is serving (to provide a bigger block against the other team's first ball, presumably - Blaire can clearly jump and play physical) and then sub VVG right back in.

Minkah is doing what he’s asked to do- which is be over the top coverage against the WR1.

the more times coaches play the analytics game over the common sense game, the more they lose.

Pitt’s new on campus football stadium

Well if that's what you think then the solution is not an on campus stadium, it's to go back to what we were doing 45 years ago when we were successful. And that was to pay the players as much or more than anyone else in the country. Start doing that again and success will follow. Whether we play on campus or a couple miles off campus.

And the good thing is that doing it now would be within the rules, unlike what was going on back then.
Also have a top notch coaching staff !

OT: Airlines in the US for domestic travel

Since 9/11 flying sucks. Packed planes, horrible customer service, you are actually a hostage to these airlines, they can treat you however they want. This loading a plane and leaving a gate only to sit on the tarmac for an hour or two knowing they weren't able to take off or had mechanical issues, but wanted to check the scorecard for "on time departure".
It’s not 9/11
Airlines aren’t going to fly half full planes, and lose money .
Just capitalism .
