Article Biles named ACC Linebacker of the Week

It seemed like a given that a Pitt player would win the ACC’s Linebacker of the Week honors this week. It was just a question of which one.

Weird Observation. Football Weather

I am sure this has something to do with a stuck high pressure, currents, climate change and la Nina or El Nino whatever. But college or Pro, here we are in late October and have yet to see any weather game. Even a cloudy game. Every game played is like it being played in sunny Southern California. It is weird. At this point, I want to see the gun metal gray skies, breezy, showers. Who needs to build a dome stadium. Even games in Minnesota and Iowa today, Ohio, Oregon, it might as well be Alabama. Even the NFL games. Cleveland, Pittsburgh, New England, all of the games have had incredibly fair weather. Not just temperatures, but I am talking blue skies and sunshine. Just weird.

Video and transcript: Narduzzi on SMU, the win over Syracuse and more

Pat Narduzzi held his weekly press conference on Monday and talked about Pitt's win over Syracuse, the Panthers' upcoming trip to SMU and a lot more. Here's video and a full rundown of what he said.

Lost a dear friend and true pitt man

Chris sorry if these type of posts are not permitted. Lost one of my closest and dearest friends this weekend. He was killed by a drunk driver. His wife is still in the icu. They have 3 kids. Mike and I met freshman year at pitt and pledged pi kappa phi together. He was truly a wonderful person. A great friend, a great brother, and an even better father and husband. He was the first one to be there anytime you needed anything. If you can please donate to the gofundme to help his family. He was a pitt grad and true pitt man. RIP Mike. https://gofund.me/f09292c0

Standing Watching

Some interesting things while looking at the ACC Standings.

Cal is 0-4 in conference, yet they only have a point differential of -9. So an average of 2.25 points per loss.
North Carolina is 1-3 in conference yet have a plus 9 differential. This is obviously due to the blowout win over Virginia this past weekend.
Don't look now but Pitt has allowed the 3rd least amount of points in the ACC this season (behind Cal, and Duke).
Only one of the top four teams in the conference has a win against a top 25 team at the time of the game. Clemson obviously has the loss against Georgia, Miami and Pitt have not played a ranked team.
Miami will not play a ranked team this year most likely on their way to a potential top seed in the ACC.

Early thoughts on SMU?

I didn't get to watch, but saw they squeaked out an OT win at Duke and their QB threw 3 picks. On the surface it seems like the best possible scenario — SMU wins and gives Pitt a great chance for a quality win while looking vulnerable in certain areas.

Am I right? To those who watched... How did the Mustangs look? And how do we match up?

VB - Game Ball To Bre Kelley

First....I should have had an EMT sitting next to me at last night's match.....what a nail biter.....and what a crowd! Here we go....

  • The trio of Louisville's Luper, DeBeer, and Reese accounted for 12.44 pts/set and gave back 5.55 pts/set from errors
  • The trio of Babcock, Stafford, and VVG accounted for 12.33 pts/set and gave back 5.11 pts/set from errors
  • In other words....Louisville's pins and Pitt's pins essentially cancelled one another out
  • Enter Bre Kelley and to a bit of a lesser extent....Ryla Jones
    • Kelley hit .500...18 pts and 1 error
    • Jones had 7.5 pts and 3 errors
      • This combo was contributing almost +5 pts/set for our Panthers
  • On the other side of the net...Louisville had Cresse and Kong
    • They combined for a bit less than +2 pts/set for the Cardinals
  • All things considered....it was that 3 point advantage that swung this match to the win column for Pitt
Who would have thought entering this match that Pitt's vaunted service game would commit 12 service errors resulting in Louisville having a better night at the service line? And who would have thought that Louisville's middle blockers would be bested by Pitt....and Bre Kelley who had a career best night. I am so delighted and happy for Bre....recovering from that severe ankle injury last year and keeping Pitt rolling. Yes....it was a team win but know this....Bre Kelley gets the game ball!

I love volleyball....let the games continue Sunday. That's all.

What city has it better than Pittsburgh ?

In the kicking department? Boz and Sauls are so damn fun to watch. Sauls has to be a slam-dunk Groza winner. He’s not just a good kicker, he’s a weapon.

Did anyone catch on the broadcast last night the story that Dan Mullen told? He said he ran into a Pitt fan and his son and the dad told Mullen to ask the boy who his favorite Pitt player is. The boy said “Ben Sauls”. Mullen said he’s never heard anyone say a kicker was their favorite player LOL

Who do we (definitely) lose from the roster next year?

I know the scholarship board went away…

Just wondering if anyone knows off the top of their heads who we lose to graduation and won’t have in 2025. (I’m not asking transfer/NIL speculation - so
pretty please for the love of god don’t devolve the conversation in that direction).

I think it’s:
Brandon George
Konata Mumpfeld
Rodney Hammond
Daniel Carter
Branson Taylor
Jason Collier
Ben Sauls
The holder Guess

Who am I missing? Thanks!

Is this the toughest team we'll face this year?

Not to get too far ahead of where Pitt VB is but based on the matches I have seen, certainly Louisville is the toughest team we faced. Not to take anything away from SMU, Penn State, and Stanford. But as we head toward the post-season, is there another team out there that Pitt would struggle with (if that's the right term) as much or more than they did last night?

The rematch @ Louisville at the end of the regular season has obvious implications on the NCAA Tournament seeding, notwithstanding that the NCAA FF will be held in Louisville

I realize (from watching the NCAAT the past several seasons) that even when a team gets to the FF, there is still a separation among those teams as to which one's the best

Beat SMU and go to CFP?

Lets play this out. If we beat SMU:

- Have to figure we beat UVa

- Split Clem/Lou

- Beat BC

That's 11-1. Now lets say the loss is to Clemson. That means we likely wont play in the ACCCG. Do we get in at 11-1.

Big Ten will send 3: Oregon, PSU, OSU/IU winner

SEC will send 3: UGa, Texas, Ten. Lets pretend the Bama/LSU winner drops another game and A&M loses another.

ACC: 2 Pitt and Clemson. Lets say Clemson beats Miami in ACCG. Miami may be 12-1 but has a weaker resume/SOS than Pitt since they played 3 non-P4 teams in the non-con and Pitt would theoretically have a really good road win at SMU

Big 12: 1
