Miami is 7-0, ranked 6th in the polls. They started in the polls, Preseason #19.
They opened up beating a mediocre Florida team in the swamp. Then played Florida A&M, Ball State and USF.
Then they hosted VaTech and won in the last seconds.
They beat Cal on an amazing comeback.
They beat Louisville in the last moments.
They are 7-0. They are now ranked #6 in the polls, and considered pretty much a lock for the CFP playoffs.
Pitt started out not getting any votes.
Beat Kent State. Had an amazing comeback on the road against a 5-2 UC team. Had a big comeback over rival WVU. Waxed YSU. Beat UNC in Chapel Hill. Beat Cal in a close won. And now blew out a 5-2 Syracuse team. We are 7-0. Ranked #19 (but likely top 15 after this weekend). Tell me how Preseason rankings don't matter??
While Pitt and Miami don't play each other, Pitt will play ranked Clemson and SMU, Miami doesn't. Pitt and Miami both played or will play Cal, Duke, Syracuse and Louisville. But we are still considered longshots. Sure, win and everything takes care of itself. But it shows the inequities caused by preseason rankings.
