OT- Ed Reed (doesn’t like trash)

Apparently he doesn’t like trash (I don’t either) but there is a more professional way to go about this. Does he not know the school was hit by Hurricane Ian not long ago? Seems he wants to be Deion putting everything on social media (meanwhile in the same breath he talks about how he doesn’t like social media lol). Sorry Ed but Bethune-Cookman doesn’t have the same resources as Miami.

At least he did realize how stupid he looked and decided to apologize…

Reynolds article from Florida

I thought this was a good article. I didn't know he tore his meniscus before his senior year of HS. It would explain why he redshirted as a freshman. I doubt it has helped with his speed though. Hopefully being another year removed from it will allow him to get back to where he was. As a junior he put up pretty ridiculous numbers in Georgia.

Crow eating post

I wanted to start off this post by mentioning that my guess at wins for the year was 12 for Pitt. I'm ecstatic to be wrong here. At this point, I think it would be a total meltdown if we ended up with less than 18 or 19 wins at this point. Some thoughts on the game:
  • What a difference a year and maturity make. Multiple times last night we had a run against us but didn't whither and built it back up.
  • I know this is what you're supposed to do with a bad team but road wins are road wins and they won this by over 20.
  • Winning a game where Hinson, Cummings, and Burton went 3 for 16 shows how versatile this team can be. We don't need one guy to carry us each night.
  • Burton showed how well he can affect a game when he's not scoring. 5.5/1 AST/TO ratio is sterling.
  • Great to see a game like this with Elliot hitting his shots. Not just all threes either.
  • GDG is quickly becoming a better player each game. 8 boards last night and numerous hustle floor burns. I thought the guards in general rebounded better last night.
  • Great to get a win last night at L'ville. The Yum center has to be the worst name I've ever heard for an arena.

The double media TO around 13 minutes

I know this might sound dumb but I felt that really killed our flow. We dominated the first 7 minutes of the half and play extended to the under 16 to awhile.

FSU called a TO that extended to a media. The problem was then 15 seconds later there was a play stoppage and there was another media TO, so you had nearly a ten minute break essentially.

After that pitt’s momentum was gone. I think college basketball needs to cut out the double TO crap that happens

Power ranking the 6 road trips in 2023

Pitt has six road games this season, and some familiar road trips to go along with it. I've been to all six schools, though I've only been to 5 of the stadiums. Here is how I would rank Pitt's road trips

6. Syracuse - It's usually cold when Pitt plays up here, and I'm guessing this will be a November game, so that will hold up. The Dome itself isn't very nice, but it's a cool place to watch the game because you are inside and you feel pretty close to the action. Their fans are pretty reasonable and won't heckle you or anything. Dinosaur BBQ is worth a stop at least once. But the tailgating scene, at least the two times I've been there, was nonexistent. You are spending time in bars and not outside because it's so cold. There are a few spots not too far from the Dome.

5. West Virginia - I've never been to a football game in Morgantown, but I covered the basketball game last season and actually really liked the coliseum. I'm guessing it'll be a hyped up atmosphere with Pitt being in town. The tailgating scene is always said to be good, but it might be a little hostile for Pitt fans. I was kind of surprised with how much traffic Morgantown got for a basketball game, and I'm guessing it'll be worse for a football game. The stadium is sort of away from the town/main row of bars, but it's typical college town type places everywhere.

4. Duke - Really nice campus, Cameron Indoor and all their athletic fields are basically right next to the football stadium. Raleigh/Durham is a nice area generally, lots of breweries and BBQ spots everywhere. There were some cool spots down by the baseball stadium when I went there the last time. I've stayed closer to the airport/halfway between Raleigh and Durham and have found ubers to be around a good bit if you don't actually stay in Durham. The atmosphere is pretty dull at the stadium, and Duke might be a bit better next year than they were in 2021, so I'm thinking it'll be a bit better.

3. Wake Forest - You can pretty much copy and paste the Duke description here. Small campus, small stadium, relaxed atmosphere. BBQ places and bars downtown. There was a good strip of bars I found in 2018. Pretty easy to get to IMO as well.

2. Virginia Tech - Lane Stadium is cool. Blacksburg is a pretty standard college town, so you have people tailgating and also hitting the bars. Blacksburg is a fairly easy drive from Western Pa. Their fans were friendly for the most part and the atmosphere in the stadium is really good.

1. Notre Dame - I admittedly haven't been here since middle school, but it was a cool experience. If its your first time, it's worth hitting up campus the night before and walking around. It's just one of those iconic stadiums you need to see once. The Notre Dame lore can become a bit much for non-ND fans, I get that, but a Fall Saturday in South Bend is objectively pretty cool.

Ball Movement

This offense evolves around Burton
And his ability to drive. Many times he gets the ball the top of the key and penetrates down the lane. My problem with this is that since he is in the middle of the floor, this enables the opposing teams bigs to collapse on him. It becomes very congested, and takes away the ability to pass the ball.

We would be better off if we cleared out a side for him. This would open up more space for him to pass the ball back out to the top of the key where we could rotate the ball quickly to the other side. We talk about ball movement. We’ve got to do some thing to get this corrected.

Now I remember why…

I despised this fanbase during Dixon’s time here. This isn’t football where one or two losses can blow up your season.

Was this a bad loss, yes. On its own is it a loss that knocks us from a 9 seed to out? No, not at all. Even at 7-4 the rest of the way you still have a shot with a win or two in the ACC tourney.

Like Jesus, settle down. I see a lot of the same people who blew up on me for being pissed about the GT and Louisville losses in football that DID destroy our chances for the ACC title absolutely melting about one loss.

If we lose the next two, yeah, panic. Until then let’s see what happens in the next two games. Win those and you’re likely looking at moving up seed lines to 8 or 7 rather than bubble

Problem with our Offense- More than missed 3’s

I really wanted to forget this game today and never think of it again. However, I am going to be teaching my AAU team the Spanish Pick and Roll this year as our main set. Since Stephen Gertz said previously that Pitt runs a lot of PnR it got me thinking what am I going to do in my AAU if he other team knows what we are doing and can switch screens today like FSU did to us. And what if my team isn’t hitting 3’s like we weren’t today. How would my team score. Which is pretty much what happened to us today.

For my own personal coaching g interest and interest as a Pitt fan trying to find out what we lost and what we could have done differently I am going to do my best to explain where things went wrong for us today offensively from a scheme standpoint. Obviously we shot like crap. But those days happen. I am going to attach a couple of links about the Spanish Pick and Roll so you can get an overview of you would like. There is also a video of you don’t like to read.
