Revenge games

An interesting stat was brought to my attention by our friend and Pitt historian Sam Sciullo.

By beating Cincinnati, West Virginia, North Carolina and Syracuse, Pitt has defeated four teams it lost to in the previous season.

That's the most "revenge games" Pitt has won in a single season since 2015, when the Panthers - in Pat Narduzzi's first year - beat Akron, Virginia, Georgia Tech and Duke.

Interestingly, the last time Pitt won four revenge games in a single season prior to 2015 was 1997; that year, the Panthers avenged 1996 losses to Houston, Miami, Virginia Tech and West Virginia. Coincidentally, that was Walt Harris' first year (just like 2015 was Narduzzi's first).

Of course, you kind of need to have a bad year to pull off that many revenge games. Pitt was 4-7 in 1996, 6-7 in 2014 and 3-9 last year. That helps set the table. But I think it's interesting nonetheless.

Trying to be positive

Tonight Sucked plain and simple. Offense couldnt move defense got run through, hell even Sauls missed a kick. But theres a pretty easy opportunity for a blowout bounceback next week versus a very bad UVA team. Huge game the next week vs Clemson if we wanna have ANY chance at sneaking in ( im probably gonna get flamed for even suggesting it, fight me ), then we have Louisville which is gonna be a real tough game but u never know. Then should end the year with a W vs BC. All and All im thinking 10-2 ( 9-3 floor, 11-1 Absolute Luckiest Ceiling) which is one hell of a bounceback after a 3-9 season. Good momentum into the offseason after a successful year should help in the portal, and all of the sudden next years team may be even better. I know tonight has been horrible and everyone has a right to be frustrated. But it aint all doom and gloom for this team. Hail2Pitt

Faster

I kept thinking of Wanny saying we need to run faster during that one half time. I think we need an upgrade in team speed outside of our LB and Reid. We just seem to need to find a way to increase speed in our skill players in particular and on the back end. SMU I think really exposed us in that area. Yes we were in a positions and just didn’t execute but they also just seemed so much quicker and explosive as well.

Sh*tshow

Been waiting all season for all 3 phases to be on the same level…. Wasnt envisioning this.

Eli bouncing easy passes a la Phil Jurkovec and hasnt looked like himself since UNC. No confidence
Junko back to his old lousy self
Sauls doing the impossible and missing a kick
Missed tackle after missed tackle
Both lines pushed around
Des Reid being ran up the gut giving Larod Stephens-Howling flashbacks
SMU comprehensively punked us tonight and Pitt looked like they never got off the bus. No fight!

Comprehensive gong show. Cinderella turned into a pumpkin tonight and need to correct a lot for their last 4 games

Holstein Footwork

Look, there was so much bad last night. This debacle wasn’t the QBs fault. The Oline looked like a depleted oline. But just a quick observation and question. Eli’s footwork looked way off. His release was slower than I seem to remember. Did anyone notice, or am I off here? I’m no QB coach, never played the position, but it looked like he needed an extra second to set his feet before attempting a pass.
