Pitt & ESPN Analytics

ESPN Analytics has Pitt the underdog in 2 of 8 OOC games (Ohio State & Mississippi State). The other OOC game is the second game at the Greenbrier and there is no projection. If Pitt gets UCF it probably projects as a win; if Wisconsin a loss.

Then, it has Pitt the underdog in 10 of its 20 ACC games with a mid- season ACC stretch that suggests a possible 4-5 game losing streak.

Have to believe this team will prove to be a lot better than that forecast suggests.

Pitt Superstitions

I got two new jerseys this year. I started in week 1 wearing a new Dan Marino pitt jersey I got cheap on ebay, and pitt got the dub. Week 2 I went with my new James Conner jersey against Cincy. We were playing like garbage so I put the Marino jersey on at halftime. The rest is history. I've donned the Marino jersey every game this year. Coincidence? You tell me.

It seems if I put it on closer to kickoff time, they play better than if I wear it all day. I'm afraid to go against the power of the Marino jersey at this point.

Anyone doing anything similar?

The Morning Pitt: 11/4/2024 - Monday thoughts on Saturday's blowout

Pitt's first loss of the season was an ugly one, and it created a whole lot of questions. On the Monday edition of the Morning Pitt, we're thinking about that game, its impact and what needs to be improved right away for the Panthers to get back on track.

Battle

According to Pro Football Focus, Rashad Battle played two snaps last night.

That means he played the first two snaps of the game and didn't see the field again. The second snap, of course, was his non-tackle that resulted in a 43-yard gain. I would have to guess that he got benched for that play (or maybe his response to it) unless he got hurt. But he didn't play again.

In his place, Tamarion Crumpley logged 25 snaps - the most he has played outside of the Youngstown State game.

NIL going forward.....

Aside from obviously player retention on defense, NIL needs focused on at least 2 decent OL. Our OL recruiting has been "below the line" for too long. Western Pa no longer produces OL of any quality let alone quantity. But the fact that an injury and performance cannot even get the coaches to try someone else on the line is a bit frightening moving forward. And I think he could return if he wants, but I would spend ZERO dollars in trying to entice Bart to return. He has been the most disappointing player on the roster.

The Will Mallory play

Really bad game, don't need to repeat all the points that have been made ad nauseam already.

One takeaway I haven't seen talked about yet: I can't believe SMU ran the Will Mallory play (with their backup TE) and hit it for an 80 yard TD while Pitt still looked like they had never seen the play before.

I'm not enough of an X's & O's guy to know if the defensive call that play was just unlucky and the Mallory play was the perfect counter, but that play has killed them for so long and Lashlee knew it. I was disheartened to see it work yet again.

Watch the tape, flush the game, and 10 wins is still on the table.
