Non-Pitt Greensboro Observations -

1) Xavier is pretty good, but not great. If you are going to draw a top tier seed, this isn’t a bad one to draw. A massive center in Nunge, a really crafty big in Hunter. They have good guards, but I wouldn’t say great guards. I always think teams that should have lost, but don’t, are particularly dangerous. They should have lost today. Kennesaw was flat out better almost the whole game.

2) Sometimes we get such a myopic view by focusing only on one team, you forget that all of these teams are really flawed. Kentucky should have really won that game by 20 but they just couldn’t score at times. Providence was a complete mess. Kansas St is another team that I am impressed with their pieces but they aren’t really winning by as much as you’d think.

Kansas St v Kentucky is a really interesting game. I’d lean Kansas St but this place is going to be 60% Kentucky fans.

If I had to guess - Fan breakdown is going to be Kentucky 60%, Pitt 25%, Kansas St 10%, Xavier 5% on Sunday.

3) Anyone who has restaurant or other fun things to do in Greensboro area please list them. All of a sudden I have a nice little Saturday here with the fam and nothing to do lol. Glad we packed for 3 days.

The Twins

The beauty of the tournament early on is it never follows the rules. Teams and players have to become the darlings of those who don’t really watch basketball until this time. With Fede questionable, the Twins are one of those kinds of stories that would easily get air time and continue for a while. I wouldn’t be shocked if they positively impacted this game tonight.

OFF TOPIC FROM PITT BBALL: All is not lost

I have been really down on this generation for being soft, lazy, and not dedicated enough to putting in the work.

But we just had our AAU tryouts for just the freshman and had 52 Lansing area kids come out to tryout. And some very legit kids. I think kids are still competitive and love basketball but they just need the opportunities. So that was refreshing to me. Now I have to cut 42 of them. Which sucks. But we are adding teams to keep them going. I hope Pittsburgh can get AAU really going again.

2023 Revenge Tour - Updated

Game 1: Revenge for Shakeel Moore not committing to Pitt in 2019 ✔️

Game 2: Blake's revenge against Iowa State. ✔️

Game 3: Revenge against Sean Miller for not taking the Pitt job in 2016 and for the Miller family generally being pricks.

Game 4: Revenge for Marcus Carr (Texas) leaving Pitt

Game 5: Revenge against Miami for the final regular season loss two weeks ago

Game 6: Revenge against UCLA for stealing Howland in 2003.

Game 7: Revenge against Duke for the 96-69 beatdown last week.

Look how the stars aligned for Pitt!

I know a lot of us didn't like the 1st 4 in Dayton and were hoping we would have gotten a bye. But it really all worked out. We got a perfect team to start in Miss State that was not a good outside shooting team. We won and amazingly got an extra day to recover and rest and prepare for Iowa State.

It was said on the broadcast that this was only the second time a 1st 4 team got an extra day to play on Friday. Usually they win and have to play Thursday if they play on Tuesday like Pitt. So that worked out.

And then we got another poor offensive shooting team in Iowa State. And Pitt didn't play very well but still won by close to 20 points.

And Xavier although better than our 1st 2 opponents is still very beatable and Pitt definitely has a chance to win and make the Sweet 16.

So all in all there were so many tougher and more dangerous matchups for Pitt but we really couldn't have asked for a better bracket.

OT Lincoln Park-Laurel Highlands

Watching the game at Norwin U…. 28-25 LP at half. Im curious for people who may have a better pulse on things locally. Gallagher, Cummings, Thomas all look every bit of D1 athletes but whats the deal with Keondre Deshields from Laurel Highlands? I know hes going to St Francis for football but hes by far the most explosive kid on the court with good size and solid build as well as a high level physicality. Really seems like hed project to a nice wr or tight end at the next level and perhaps bigger schools.
