A few UNC Thoughts

Eli, man he is a big threat with his legs. Once again made some key passes. With about 2 minutes left he got lucky he didn’t throw a pic. Just eat the ball or throw it away especially when you have the best kicker in the nation.

Reid & the other backs didn’t have much running room. But Reid still dominated with 205 all purpose yards including a 72 yard catch. There are a ton of good backs around the country but I don’t think there is a better receiving back than Reid. He legit is another WR.

Baer not to single him out cause everyone on the OL needs to play better. But he’s been bad. Gives up more pressures than any OL in the ACC and gets costly penalties. Hope he can get it together.

Fitz, the numbers might not show it but he played really well . Got pressure up the middle, hit the QB and blew up the 4th down play freeing George to make the tackle.

Brewu also blew up a play. He basically overpowered his man walking him back to the quarterback. Kid is powerful.

Louis what more can you say, had the sack to end the game. The guy is explosive, all over the place and the best player on D.

Lots to clean up. But finally got a win at UNC, 5-0 and soon to be ranked in the top 25!

After rewatching the game...

It's amazing the offensive coaching contrast from last two seasons to this year.

OCKB along with Bronowski, Darveau, Lamar, and Laster are light years ahead of the debacle Cignetti, Borbs, Salem, Powell, and Underwood.

The incoming recruiting class is littered with speedy skill position guys, mostly from Florida, Maryland, and Georgia.

Plus you would think attracting players from the portal after the season (particularly on the OL) would be much easier with the onfield success so far this year.

Exciting times for sure....

Some updated stat rankings after Week 6

Pitt's offensive rankings nationally:

Total offense: No. 4 (522.2 yards per game)
Scoring offense: No. 6 (45.6 points per game)
Passing offense: No. 6 (340.4 yards per game)
Team passing efficiency: No. 16 (166.53)
Rushing offense: No. 50 (181.8 yards per game)

And on the rushing offense: Pitt ranks No. 50 in yards per game but No. 11 in yards per attempt, which gives an indication of how effective the rushing attack has been. The No. 50 ranking is more a product of volume than effectiveness.

Wide Awake With College Football Right Now

I am woke! Well...awoken. I didn't have the euphoria as I did after Cincy and WVU today, I had more of a relief. A realization we just navigated a big hurdle. 5-0. At Kenan Ivory Wayans Stadium. The whole season is still in front of us. Destiny is completely in our hands. That's nice. It's October. The ACC while maligned, no team left on our schedule has a losing record. So there might not be some great teams, but there are alot of good teams. It's a gauntlet.

But it's doable. When you got a star QB, all things are possible. Who knew? I predicted 4-8. I didn't know we were going to have this type of impact at QB, RB and WR. I said we were devoid of playmakers. Kade Bell (aside from that last series lol) has been a god send. I don't know why people diss Narduzzi, aside from he is old school, no BS, no filters type of coach, but he is smart enough to learn from mistakes.

Reading the board and some threads....folks, we haven't been 5-0 since 1991. Many weren't born. Many like me, were young and had our entire lives ahead of us. So to nitpick this or that.....I mean come on. Just sit back and enjoy. Don't worry right now about NIL issues in January, and conference alignments, just enjoy the fact that next week we play Cal, it will be a big game, huge if they beat Miami tonight.

Enjoy we got the best Fr QB in the country. Enjoy that our QB is better than Penn State's and WVU's which no one thought going into this year. Enjoy Vandy beating Alabama. Mizzou getting whacked. Enjoy all of these games. Enjoy me giving up hard liquor and limiting beer so I can stay up and soberly watch these games. LOL

Enjoy!!!

12 undefeated teams in the country

There were 19 undefeated FBS teams entering the weekend, but after UNLV, Alabama, Tennessee, Missouri, Duke, Rutgers and James Madison all lost, that number is down to 12:

Army, BYU, Indiana, Iowa State, Liberty, Miami (FL), Navy, Ohio State, Oregon Penn State, Pitt and Texas.

That's the list.

Oregon and Ohio State play each other this week, so at least one more undefeated team will fall.

Clock Mgmt.

Before anyone jumps on me, that was a good win yesterday in a place we haven't won before. I don't think any of us thought they would lose, as the offense seemed to be in control for most of the game.

But, I will say, if they are going to play close games in the final 7, they need to work on clock management in the final 5 mins. of the game. I am sure someone has already mentioned this, but even the awful announcers kept commenting on it. On that final drive, and I was counting, there were only 2-3 plays where they snapped the ball with less than 10 seconds on the play clock. Most times there were between 16-20 seconds remaining. Again, I don't believe any of us thought UNC was going to come back and drive the field at the end of the game if we didn't get the field goal, but we could have burned at least 1:00 - 1:30 of additional clock time on that drive. I know that is not our offense, and that is fine, but there is nothing wrong with coming up to the LOS with less than 5 mins. left and with the lead and letting the clock wind down to 4-5 seconds. I get that we are trying to move the ball, push the offense, and keep the defense on their heels, but that should not be the objective late in the game with a lead.

I know that is probably nitpicking, but we are going to be in a close game this season with a team with a much better offense. I can't imagine if we are up on Miami by 7 with 3 mins to go and the ball, we won't slow down and let the play clock run down.
