We have 1 freshman in the rotation in Femi but even he isnt playing a big role. When you have a bottom of the league team, you typically see freshmen in major roles which gives hope for the future.
There's a saying in English football (ok, I admit I learned this from Ted Lasso): "its the hope that kills you." Fans of those middle of the table to relegation zone teams in England are actually very similar to Pitt football and basketball fans. Usually they dont have much to cheer about as they look up at the blue bloods but they have "hope" and they keep coming back every weekend. Maybe they can be the next Leicester City. In Ted Lasso, he says he doesn't agree with that phrase, he says "its the lack of hope that kills you." I am leaning more toward that because I have never been so defeated as a Pitt basketball fan. I am missing whole halves of games, dozing off during games, and simply not caring when we lose (with the exception of NC St).
Back to the freshmen, the fact that only 1 of them can crack the lineup on a bad team is very concerning and it makes me lack hope that these guys can help turn the tide. Add in the fact that there isnt a 2021 class and Champagnie is likely gone, the 19-21 classes look to be well below the bar.
At this point, the only chance Pitt has is if Champagnie comes back and they somehow land Efton Reid. Chances of both of those things happening are probably 5%-10%. There is no hope that the future may be brighter. Heck, when we went 3-15 with 3 freshmen, we had hope. 6-10 as juniors with 1 freshman in the rotation.....that's concerning to say the least.
