11 straight seasons without an above .500 conference record for Jamie

Pitt isn't serious in moving up. It's happy to collect conference checks and acting like it cares, but it never has cared for athletics. Any time a team starts doing well, there is no interest in investing to be better. It scales back, hoping the winning can continue but it never does. Too many other schools out there who care that will surpass Pitt.
We are now serious about non-revenue sports. I don’t get it as to why we are content with being average or even below average in the two revenue programs. Pitt is one of the wealthiest public universities in the country. I am very proud of our academic standing, which SHOULD be the top priority, but we can do better than average in rev sports.

Bottom line is that the Pitt MBB and Football programs are no better now than they were when Jamie and Wanny left. If we make a change in either program this year or in 2026, it should be with the goal of improving our standing both in conference and nationally. I know that seems obvious, but I’m not sure that Pitt is serious about trying to move up. Giving life contracts to Capel and Narduzzi is strong evidence that Pitt is/was quite satisfied with the status quo. Capel was and is basically a .500 coach and PN was/is a mediocre defensive coordinator at a mediocre football school. If we are not serious about improving our standing in the two most high profile sports, then rejoin Big East or drop back and compete against schools like ECU, JMU, ODU, Appy State, etc. I sort of feel like are trying to fake our way through the ACC by deliberately firing and then hiring people who are so-so at best at the P4 level.

I don't expect linear progression, and I get that the landscape has changed which has left us even more in the dust. But some of that is offset by the fact that the ACC, in both sports, is extremely mediocre.

Pat Narduzzi's 7.2-5.6 average record at Pitt is, at best, the absolute bare minimum for what we should tolerate. No way he should be getting almost $7M/year to achieve that. My expectations are not unrealistic; we should strive for a coach who can average at least 8 wins/season. 8-5, on average, doesn't seem greedy when you're playing 2-4 games against G5/FCS teams every season.

And 1 NCAA Tournament appearance in 7 tries - I mean, I don't even know what to say about that. It's obviously not good enough.

Given the current state of the ACC in both revenue sports, you are correct as to your bare minimum goals for most seasons for each program. Down years will happen when you lose a top player, but mostly average or below aveage records should not be the norm. In the ACC, Pitt should be doing better.
