2017 Early Rankings

4 Big 10 teams on the top 10. I don't think so. Therefore, I can't get too excited they picked Pitt. Almost looks like the final rankings.

I don't think in our case they used final rankings as we will be outside of the top 25. I am happy PITT is being noticed!

-I will bet both my nuts Michigan doesnt come close to finishing Top 10 next year. They are losing over 40 seniors not including early draft entrants, LOL. And still lost 3 games this year. And still lost to an ACC team.

I Googled the AP football voters. There are 60 of them and at first glance it looks like there are these number of voters for each conference. Again, this is just a glance without going into their bios.
B1G = 15 voters
SEC = 11 voters
PAC = 10 voters
B12 = 7 voters
ACC = 5 voters

I went by their region, there are a few national and from other smaller conferences. So no big surprise why the B1G and SEC get all the votes.

This is not from the AP voters.

I don't know if the formula is still the same, but it used to be that votes were given by state based on how many D1 schools were in that state. So since PA only has Pitt, Penn State and Temple there were relatively few voters from PA. Ohio was always very well represented by voters because of Ohio State, Cincinnati and all the Ohio MAC schools. There were always a boatload of voters from Texas and California because of all the D1 teams there.

I'm not sure myself. Everything I look up seems to say there are 60-65 voters. I did find this very interesting I haven't read it all the way through yet. Voter Bias in AP Football Poll , its from 2007.

I also found this on the AP website, you view by week and even voter:

Poll Methodology

The AP Top 25 is determined by a simple points system based on how each voter ranks college football's best teams. A team receives 25 points for each first place vote, 24 for second place and so on through to the 25th team, which receives one point. The rankings are set by listing the teams' point totals from highest to lowest. The mathematical formula is the same as the one used for the AP Pro 32 rankings and the AP Top 25 rankings for men's and women's basketball.

If anyone had the time they could look up each voter and see their region, who they cover, and where they went to school. Got to love the internet, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Wikipedia. There is information on almost everyone! Big brother IS watching!!

Yeah, that's one of the lists I saw, the actual AP site has a different list but it was still 65 voters. Here is the AP site where you can see who voted for what school.
