2019 Pitt VB thread

Louisville suffers a horrendous road loss at 0-7 VT today. It helped Pitt's case to have them in the top-25, and they even defeated fringe top-25 ND earlier this week. They were #11 in RPI Monday and ~17 now.

Pitt plays @ND and @UL next weekend, who are now tied for 2nd place. Big weekend for Pitt!

I can't imagine us losing a set to a lower tier ACC team this year let alone a match. We happened to be sitting next to the NC State parents today, and from what I could hear, they had no delusions of winning today. When they showed a little bit of life at the beginning of the 2nd set, I think they were more surprised than Pitt was.

Pretty much when they get a two set lead you can five star lock a win.especially at home.this team is too good to lose three straight sets after winning the first two.I guess it could happen, but it would have be a monumental let down by the team.this is my opinion, but if they would have won the first two sets v ups at home they would be still undefeated at this point, but it was probably for the best they got a loss out of the way now that later.

It wouldn't be fair to call BC a "lower tier" team this season, but that wast a match that was close the entire time and I think Pitt trailed by multiple points in all three sets despite managing the sweep anyway. It is unfathomable though that UL managed to lose to VT, let alone in 4 sets.

I went through some of the ACC records this afternoon. Since they eliminated the ACC tournament, the best record was 2006 Duke at 21-1 with a set record of 62-9. The last truly undefeated team was 1996 Maryland at 16-0, 3-0 in the ACC tournament, 57-11 in sets.

That is bad news for us. We need some other ACC teams to get and stay in the rankings, and now it looks like the only way that might happen is if one of them beats us.

OOC opponent Utah also had a 2-1 set lead at Stanford yesterday, and even led ~12-10 in the 5th set but blew it. They are right around 25 in RPI and I'd certainly rather have them "count" as a top-25 RPI win for us than not.

Pitt need to win 3 out of their last 5 matches to outright clinch the acc, 2 of next 5, assuming nd wins out, to clinch a share.
