So Champ told Toney not to come back or he'll whoop his ass.

Champ told Toney he's off the team.
Not Capel.
Capel passively allowed his most important player (Toney) walk because he failed to get two grown bois to become men.

Yes you could say Capel holds no blame. Maybe, maybe...... but maybe he could've intervened and tried to retain a player that didn't want to transfer at the time.

Now this is all telephone and we'll never know the whole truth but I'm just stoned thinking about things.

As i was told how that went down

Everything that happens to members under his watch is his responsibility.

One of a coach’s most important jobs is managing 13-18 personalities and making sure that they don’t want to kill each other.

Honestly, this is why football teams often have those “leadership councils” to help police these kinds of disputes. Or, in the Pitt days of old, one of the seniors would set the tone and nip it in the bud.

Yuup but i bet he made an excuse

At his last press conference he said he had no idea if current players would transfer and he hadn’t thought about it. If true that is so blatantly stupid! You have to be recruiting your players to stay this day in age. He should have his finger on the pulse ehh???

That's what I've been saying. He's either very stupid or extremely incompetent. And if he did know about transfers or had discussed it, then he lied. I don't understand how anyone could say otherwise about this coach. But there are people on this board who have nothing against him nor do they have issues with his personal character. These are indications of a flawed character. Leaders don't act the way he does.

I don't know him personally and don't care to. All I know is that from the actions and inactions I've seen from him, there are issues.

Toney was going to transfer anyway so who cares that he left a few games early. Capel had 2 big problems:

- signing low character players
- not developing them into better people/teammates

As someone pointed out, as bad as the ACC was this year, this starting 5 may have friggin won the league or at least finished 2nd

PG - Johnson
SG - McGowens
SF - Toney
PF - Champagnie
C - Hugley

So let me get this straight… Capel couldn’t win or build a good culture with guys he got to know over several months as high school/AAU kids so now the plan is to fill a roster with guys he gets to know over a handful of phone calls from the transfer portal?

Exactly! That was an unbelievable answer to that question given what has happened to him last season and the current state of the game. I’m not a fan of the where we are in college sports, but it is the new reality . Adapt or fail. What is amazing to me is that if you told me 3 years ago which major sport Pitt coach would adapt to the new norms of coaching better, I would have figured it would be Capel and that Narduzzi would struggle. It’s been the other way around. It’s simply not going to work for Capel with this attitude and mentality.

No you shouldn't take anything as gospel. The title says it all.

This type of talk isn't for everyone its annoying and childish; but it's entertaining for me

It just amuses me how posters take off with it.

Did you mean whoop his ass again?

Get out of here. Everyone transfers in college basketball now. There is a 0.0% chance he was coming back to play for a really bad team.
No i mean at that point in time. I'm not talking after the season. Good chance he goes anyways but he didn't want to initially

I seriously question what exactly Capel has been doing this year in his job. It's clear he hasn't recruited. He can't coach a lick when his team is on the court. And it's as if his team gets no game preparation before they play a game, no coaching. Please someone tell me what this guy does.

Behind closed doors, I imagine he is talking as much shit on Pitt fans and administration as we are talking on him. Just one of those marriages where both parties hate each other but they still live together for the kids. Except in this case, the kids are money.

What difference does it make, he played there 3 years, come back and your a star for an ACC team, even if they suck, so what, if you play well enough the pros still see you.

why was everyone scared of getting their ass whooped by Champ? Toney looks like he could defend himself. i'd probably bet on him against champ in a fight. Xavier, yeah i see him backing down. McGowans looks like he's stabbed someone a time or two in a fight as well.

Wasnt Toney 1-0 in locker room fights anyway, haven't beaten McGowens the year before?

Maybe Pitt should have tried to partner with Barstool or something for a locker room fight NIL deal

Julian? Because Justin is in the pros.

No. If those guys liked each other and the team wasn't so toxic, I think he comes back. He was tabbed as a late 2nd rounder. He very well could have thought about coming back and winning the ACC
